I just put a Humminbird 859ci DI on my pontoon boat and when I power it up, the Humminbird emblem comes on the screen but nothing else. I took it off of my bass boat (upgraded) and it was working fine. However, now when the Humminbird emblem comes on the screen, it doesn't go to the next screen like it's supposed to. Also, none of the buttons will work while it's on...it won't let me power it off, go to the menu, etc. I have to unplug the harness from the unit to get turn it off. Any ideas?

The computer is failing to initiate/boot.
Make sure all software updates are done.

Could be waiting for a response from a peripheral, communicate link, map chip, etc.

Unplug all peripherals (transducer, link, gps module, etc.) and try again.

If that doesn’t work you’ll need to have it repaired.

I had the same problem on a different mfg. unit last Spring. Turned out to be a video display driver

They are often all the same. Just more money for the same parts.
Certainly not the case anymore.

From a hardware perspective, you get what you pay for. There is a huge difference in quality and design between entry level (big box) and professional quality hardware on the market

The money, like most things these days is in the software. Technology advances in hardware (chips) have advanced software capabilities ten fold in the past 5-6 years. Unless your tech savoy, it’s very hard to tell the true differences between units.

In this particular case, Navionics mapping was the gold standard until Garmin purchased the company leaving few other map options for the competitors.
