Humminbird Fish Finder help Please???

Im gonna buy a humminbird matrix 97 fish finder that im buying from a guy an it hasnt been used in 2 years its been in the box unopened for that long an he hooked it up to an across the screen he says it beeps an says alarm cause it has low voltage?he said he has perfect charged optima batteries so he doesnt think its the batteries.does anyone no what may cause this thanks!!!!

bad connection, not "perfectly charged" batteries.... bring your own battery a known good one, it can be from a car, motorcycle....doesnt matter as long at it is 12v lead acid. check it out yourself on site. The units have a pretty wide tolerance for voltage so my guess is the batteries or connections are bad or the unit is faulty. if there is an inline fuse you may wish to check that too, the simple act of removing and replacing it may clear some corrosion/oxidation that may be the cause of the voltage drop. if none of the above work and work well, then i would suggest you look elsewhere for your new toy.
