Had a bit of an amateur day on the ramp the other day and cutting a long story short, took a chunk out of the bottom of the stern. Basically any ideas or warning when attempting a repair of this sort. Pictures may illustate stupidi!

Looks like it's at the stern right on the keel. You can see a roller on each side. Looks more like a basic gel repair to me.

Yeah sorry; its the stern on the keel with bung plug above. Chunk about 8-10mm at the deepest not sure if it has breached through tho. Should I be re-glassing or something else?
Cheers for the help

Hey hotrod, not sure if water is from inside hull, took photos when it was still wet after use. What if it is water from inside? Am I to do something specific in this case? Any suggestions would be much appreciated - otherwise will just try oops soopa peanut butter recipe sounds like it might do the job :)

Re: Hull repair hitting underside on boat ramp

The repair area must be totally dry before any repairs can be made. If the glass is saturated with water from the inside and if you have saturated foam on the inside then that's a whole different kettle of fish. If NOT, then OOPS, repair will do the trick just fine.

Think hull is pretty dry now after 2 weeks of good weather so will start sanding back and preparing surface for application of oops! Peanut Butter recipe. Any other pointers out there regarding this kind of fix? See photos for more detail now its dry.

Re: Hull repair hitting underside on boat ramp

hang on bud......if the hull was dripping for two weeks......the foam is wet.....more to do.....like woodie said

the repair will work fine..but you will still trap more water in the hull.

on second thought .......lol.......maybe just repair it and forget about it.... much easyer....lol

Water has been drying for two weeks not been dripping for two weeks - photos with water dripping were taken when boat was washed down after ramp stuff up. Have put water thru bung and nothing seeped out of damaged area from what I could see. Will try post more photo's if possible. Oops! found someone on ebay who sells the milled fiber - AU$27 for 1kg - does that round right?
Thanx

Looks good and dry. Not sure on the price of your milled fibers, here in the states it sells for about $6 bucks a pound. A pound will be more than you'll need for this repair.

Have filled area with peanut butter and got it as best I can, see photo. From here was wondering what to do now to finish off - do I gelcoat or flowcoat from here and should I be putting a layer of fiberglass before this?

Re: Hull repair hitting underside on boat ramp

glass over all fillers..... 2 layers of 1.5 csm....

you have a ridge under your keel......you will want to make that flat.....either by adding more filler and building up the ridge line or grinding down the edge....

if you leave it .....it will create an air pocket just in front of the prop.
