Hub repair

Hey guy's,I'm wondering if anyone has tried or has fixed a spin hub ? I'd like to try to repair mine off my 25 hp Johnson,if so what types of adhesive would one use,and the prep steps,I can get a new propeller for around 80$ but thought I'd give this a whirl

You have to have a replacement hub. Those are press fit once they spin they are junk.

Oh really? Wonder were one could find a replacement hub? I pressed mine out,whole without tearing it

They used to sell that part separately. Maybe find one NOS

I have seen this repair using set screws instead of bolts after drilling/tapping holes. You would lose gear protection on rock strikes..

Interesting, I would think that repair would cause the propeller to be out of balance? ,but thanks for sharing.

That----Gorilla glue----Will work I think.

No replacement hubs in the market for these old props I think.
I have not sean any.
Ebay or Craigslist would be a source for used props.

When I worked in an outboard shop 55 years ago there was rarely an issue with prop hubs slipping.-----Or a motor that could not be repaired.-----Reason for that ?-----There was no such thing as a motor that was more than 20 years old.!-----Today folks walk in with a 60 year old motor to find out that materials have failed.-----Going to be worse with the new motors of today.----Too much plastic / wires / electronics.

Yes ,I totally agree with you on that, everything is made cheaply, plastic, Chinese garbage,the old OMC outboards where made quite well

You could try some 3m 5200 on that and keep it for a spare. I wouldn’t have any trust in it to get me home.

I have not seen the hubs sold separately only had props shops rehub them.

Oh ok , I've since repaired the hub, pressed it back in and used gorilla glue epoxy, haven't tested it yet,the results are to be determined

pressed the old hub back in?

Yes ,old hub came out unscathed ,so I cleaned everything up well, put gorilla glue epoxy all over the hub surface, pressed it back into place

the rubber in hub should be putting enough pressure on the prop to keep it in place, over time the rubber degrades loosing its press fit... it is not glued in

Yes,I understand that,it's just an experiment,if it doesn't work I ain't out ,but like 5$ for the gorilla glue epoxy,I have another good prop on it now,gonna buy a new one soon

Curious to see the outcome, for a smaller motor it might work, would never trust it on a high powered motor.
