I can't see what the structural side looks like so here goes for my 2 cents.

First go to town with this tool:

Then place the smaller peices in this recepticle.

i agree, if its not too late i would stay away, it would be a ton of work just to make it float again, no matter look good.. plus i dont see much else there other then the broken hull. there are better deals out there! also if its hurricane leftovers odds are all the support inside is toast now too...

can you get to the damaged area from the inside? looking at that second pic it looks as if the entire hull is caved in, if that is the case, unless you can part it out i would continue to run.

yes i can get to it from inside. part is not really caved in, but is in a bind because when t
]he 2 boats sideswiped the screws around the rail pulled out and the hull and deck are in a bind. i think when i pull the trim and screws out, it will sit back in place. the boat holds water and does not leak. the are no holes below waterline or really anywhere, but i can se the fiber mat where the gelcoat once was

I would bet that an insurance company totaled it because it will cost way more to fix than the boat is worth. Even if you can make it look right you will still most likely have problems with a hook in the hull.

That is some damage. I guess you have to just fix it one step at a time. I think it would overwhelm me......then I would start fixing it. Good Luck.

I wouldn't mind seeing updates on this repair.

Re: how would you recommend repairing this hull

ok let me give you an update. i finaly got all the bent screws and rivets out of the rub rail. it was a real pain. i took it off from the nose to the middle of the stern rocked the deck. we kinda rocked the deck and it all kinda fell in place. it was kinda kinked up in one spot about halfway down the side but it almost completely straightened out by itself. i did the coin test around the damaged ares and cutaway the the hanging material around the bottom runners. it all seems prety solid. on the sides as well it seems as if the gelcoat was just knocked off or loose in spots. so i cut and sanded aroind the damaged areas. it all seems pretty solid. can i just re-gelcoat those spots? also on the front bottom on the runner, how do i repair that? it seems really solid and appears to not take on water. do i just re-fiberglass the dameged area?

yup, you can spray our brush gellcoat on.. the tone's may not match perfectly, but its better then nothing. spraying will make it more even and smooth.

is there wood showing through on the chime area? if so then grind the gellcoat off around it(be generous give it atleast 5 inches all the way around the damage, assuming its still water tight, if its not give it about a foot all the way around and overlap afew layers of glass) cover it in a layer of glass, just a mat followed by a roven or cloth. or you can use a biax like 1708. and you wont need the mat. let er harden overnight, then you can sand it smooth and appy gellcoat to that aswell.

if there isnt any wood showing, then i would just clean it up abit and apply a coat of gellcoat.

Re: how would you recommend repairing this hull

I'd love to see a before and after on this one. From the photo, it looks as though it has been left outside (uncovered) for quite some time. How old is the boat? Can you see below deck to see if the stringers are still okay? If they are bent, you are risking some quick rot (assuming they are wooden).

I suppose getting it straight will be the 1st task. One step at a time, go slowly, plan ahead, and you may be on the water causing serious noise pollution before you know it.

Re: how would you recommend repairing this hull

I think at the very least I'd want to take the interior out on the damaged side and run at least one layer of 1708 biax on the inside once the hull was straightened out...that needs to be glassed somewhere because that glass is broken..a little gel coat and a thin layer of glass isn't going to fix it other than cosmetically....it took some force to crack that up.

Re: how would you recommend repairing this hull

I think I'd go a bit further than one layer of 1708 and a bit further than 5 inches. I see stripping the interior, and completely checking the entire hull out, reinforcing everywhere the factory didn't. This hull has had quite a jolt. It's difficult to say how far the microscopic fractures you can't see go. In time, they are likely to show if you just do a patch job. How fast can you run from it? If too late, I'd cover the entire inside of the hull with 1708 and a bit more. When you feel it has enough to withstand anything, it's probably in good shape. Probably totalled because the labor costs are more than it's worth. But your labor is free, right? :) Have fun....
