Re: How would you handle this problem

you tried to be nice so , now its time to fight fire with fire. a friend of mine was having almost the same problem as he lived close to a diner and on friday , saturdays and sundays they had a d.j. outside blasting music, went to the owner and would not turn it down so, my friend ask me to help him out. i let him use my 10 meter cb and high drive amplifier he parked down the street from the diner and began to transmit buy 1 dinner get three free, whatever he said or played on the radio bled through the d.j's speakers and i'm sure a few t.v. sets. they finally turned the music down :D

Re: How would you handle this problem

I've got another idea....invite him for drinks, when he's not looking squirt some Visene in his drink. Visene has a laxative in it. He'll never know what hit him......

That used to be true, I know, years ago I was a bartender and that was a common "gift" to assholes and lousy tippers.
Supposedly they changed the formula and it doesb't give you the trots anymore. Nowadays it can cause seizures, coma, and death!

*edit* more info

Back to the OP's problem at hand, if you mess with this guy's boat, be prepared to get your *** kicked, or to kick his. If he has no common courtesy, you can be sure he isn't above assault and battery, which is usually bad for all parties involved.

You need to make him want to leave the marina, or for him to disappear.

Re: How would you handle this problem

Sooooooooooo from what I can figure out is that you are the only one on that dock that has any type of b@lls? I am assuming that the other "tenants" on the dock are on the same page as you, they don't care for this joker either?

thats what i was thinking as i was reading.

there is some very good advice given by a few of the more level headed guys....... i like a few other people i know am not as rational when im angry...

i would probably have done like itsaboattime suggested and turned it off when he left and told him how rude it was and see how that worked......... it is something stupid and petty to fight over, and will cost you a lot in the long run, but sometimes it comes to that..........some people only become worse when confronted with a lawsuit same as when he found out you reported him.............

if the owner of the marina isnt doing anything about it and his workers are moving to a different dock because of this same jerk then i would say he is probably friends/related with said jerk......................in which case all you could do is demand a refund for the unused months and move somewhere else.

Don't damage his stuff or do anything sneaky. Handle it like a man, talk to the guy first in a diplomatic way. If he gets physical, don't back down even if you know you not going to win. Stand up to a bully and you won't get bully again. He will respect you for that. If you want to feel better about standing up to him? Take a self defense class for a couple weeks. The bigger they're, the harder they fall.

I was under the impression that you had already talked to him and been threatened. Don't do that again.

Commiting vandalism or other illegal or uncivilized revenge behavior would be just plain stupid.

Get a lawyer.

You might want to consider videoing events involving this person. Make sure you film from your boat (your private property) and not from the dock. Your lawyer may want this type of info.

Or let him know that you're considering getting a lawyer. Don't sabotage his boat, someday he's going to sell it and one of us will have to fix it.:D

If he does get violent with you just try to stay cool and calm. If he does something stupid like hit you, press charges on him for assault, then get a restraining order. Then he'll have to leave the docks.

You mentioned he has two kids, what kind of example is that?? There have to be some people at the marina who share your concerns.

Dock Rat, handle it any way you want.

I just have to know, which of you are from Columbus?

Alright, all snarkiness aside... you are in a no win situtation.

The other people on the dock obviously have chosen him over you. So it's time for you to move on.

Very similiar thing happened at "my" marina, only the jerk's friends told him how it was going to be, and he left the marina. This guys' buddies are obviously not going to do that.

Lawyers only work some times at best. Plus you need to pay them. It's a shame you need to spend money because of a jerk with no common courtesy. I would go with the sugestion about getting a radio and blast it. This way you will force the owner to do something. Bullies are very hard to deal with. Even after the owner does something I'm sure the bully will just come up with something else. I'm sorry to say but if after the owner makes him turn the radio down and if he does something else your only option is to relocate. Just my 0.02

After I finished looking for the hidden camera to make sure I am not being punked, I would try the direct approach

Pardon me, but muffy and I are trying to socialize on the dock. Can I kindly ask you to turn it down to less than 105 db? Thank you.

If the mature approach fails, you could attach a note to his running gear with a chain.

Re: How would you handle this problem

Really all the testosterone, playground do this to his boat or do that to his boat sounds good on paper..But the only real avenue is as JB said LEGAL action.

Curious as to the marina rules & policy (hereafter to be known as a "contract"!) that you, he and everyone signed..I bet thats a legal document.

If anything happens to his boat, yes he will be coming after you..and I could see this escalating (if it were me) to a very bad & bloody ending.

I read your wife was contacting a lawyer, GOOD..I would think when proceedings start, you may want to remove your vessel from that toxic soup..

Best of luck on this..I feel for you..terrible thing to read about.

No offense but your screen name is Dock Rat and you were accused of snitching, sorry, I had to laugh :D

All kidding aside, best of luck in this lousy situation.

You know....there's probably another board somewhere that a guy has asked everyone about how to handle this guy who keeps harrassing him about the music he plays at the marina.......

Re: How would you handle this problem

i assume this is a privately owned marina. do you have a written contract, and rules for the marina. then take it up with the marina. they are the ones in charge of enforcing the rules. have the attorney contact the marina, about enforcing the rules. if they are not going to stand up to there end of the contract. then suggest that they help pay for relocating to another marina, that provides the same services. they are the ones allowing the problem to happen. this will either, make them enforce the rules, or evicted the moron. your contract is with the marina, they are suppose to provide you with a safe environment.

Re: How would you handle this problem

There are always 2 sides to the story ... and somewhere in the middle lies the truth. Step back and, if possible, re-evaluate the situation without emotion or attachment. Now, what can be done to appease both sides?

Agree with TD, check your contract and get the Marina to enforce the rules. That might mean that you will have to alter your behavior also ... do you want to do that? Is it no fishing from the dock, or no fishing in the dock area? Your lawyer friend will help you sort through the legalize of the contract and help you understand what you can do and cannot do.

The best resolution is speaking face to face ... take him a case of his favorite beverage, or a cake, or invite him to a BBQ. Make nice, and in the process, explain why you don't appreciate his loud music. Ask if there is any compromise that can be reached ... you can catch more flies with sugar than with stink. Good luck. Catch him off guard with your niceness, then deal with him about the problems.
