Re: How To Start Force 90

First make sure you've got water for the motor. Either at the dock or on the hose, but water is a must. ( I know that is probably obvious, but you never know).

Squeeze the bulb till it's firm.
Pull throttle out (for neutral).
push forward all the way.
turn key on, push key in (for choke), crank motor.

If it fires and dies, choke should not be necessary for the next crank. just crank a few seconds till it starts, then let it warm for a few seconds with the throttle forward, bring it back to neutral, let it warm while you get the lines ready for cast off, etc... and you should be good to go!

Re: How To Start Force 90

Welcome to iboats Peterel.

First, use fresh gas (87 or 89 octane), mixed with TC-w3 2 cycle oil, at a 50:1 ratio (2.6 ounces of oil for each gallon of gas).

1- Connect fuel line.
2- Open gas tank vent (if using portable gas tanks).
3- Squeeze primer bulb till it gets firm.
4- Make sure the safety lanyard is in the "run" position.

5- Advance throttle to full. You have to first disengage the shifter. If you have Quicksilver controls, it is done by one of two ways. Either there is a button at the center of the pivot on the shift handle, push it in, then squeeze handle and push it forward.

Or, the entire handle needs to be pulled toward the driver, then pushed forward.

6- Turn key to "on".
7- Push key in to activate the choke.
8- Turn key to "start" while continuing to hold the key in, until it fires.
9- Be prepared to pull back the throttle handle, try to keep the rpm down below 1500.
10- Pull throttle all the way back to the neutral position, shifter will re-engage.

That motor is a pretty decent engine, if maintained properly.
Post back here with your results.
And welcome to boating.

What he said :)

I've got the force 90 (1991), and I like it. It's got it's quirks, but maintained properly, it should give you years of use.
