I have a 2009 Mercury 4-stroke.

Last year I notice oil under the prop and took it to the dealer. The mechanic said I had laid it flat on the ground and oil had leaked into the head. No big deal, he changed the plugs and it worked fine.

I've just taken the motor off the back of the boat and I want to lay it down again for storage, but I forget specifically how he told me to do it.

If I remember correctly he said to lay it down on a tire so that the head was slightly elevated.

Is that all I need to do????????

Thanks

Good idea ... but what if you want to put it in the back of your 1/2 ton, how would you lay it down.

With the head between an inner tube or a tire?

There are stickers on the lower cowling or front of the motor, that show you how and how not to lay it down. it's also in the owners manual.
