Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

Hello Rotorfixer,

the System Instruments are able to work together with NMEA183. I've connected my speedo to a Lowrance LMS 527 ICDF and it works without any complications in the network after I switched the plotter from NMEA 2000 to NMEA183. Only the plotters which use only the 2000 as standard wouldn't work together with the system gauges. If your plotter makes also NMEA 183 you got all functions like gps speed, fuel to waypoint, time to waypoint etc. The only informations they weren't able to read out have been the functions which depended on the paddlewheel of the plotter/fishfinder combo.

Regards
Andr?

I do not belive the System monitor interfaces with the NMEA network. When it is showing you "speed, fuel to waypoint, time to waypoint" etc. it is using either PITOT or PADDLE WHEEL for speed input.

EDIT: I believe you are talking about your "SPEEDO" which would likely be an SC1000 system speedometer. He is asking about "SYSTEM MONITORS". Completely different.

Ok, so on this first picture you can see the harness from the engine(top) and the second(bottom) is from the fuel, paddlewheel harness.

The one with the blue jacket is from the fuel harness. The other one in my hand is an adapter that Mercury told me to buy. It connects to the fuel paddle wheel and just converts from male to female.

In the first pic, you can tell that both have orange jackets. Trouble is they don't match.

Most all of these questions would be EASILY answered if we had Mercury document #891965 , "Mercury Smartcraft Applications and Display Products (NON- DTS)".

It retails for $20 - $30 and the only one I can find online has date 2003 on the bottom (some of my posts have been based on this version). I am not sure it is up to date or not. Someone who is currently working on this should order this manual and post it.

Again, I dont need to have the oil reservoir or paddle wheel connected. I just want the fuel sender connected so I can have a gauge on my dash. Thanks for any assistance offered.

What color are the two wires for the fuel sender in the fuel harness? pink with black stripe and black with orange stripe? Are those wires found at the plug on the engine?

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

I thought I had replied before, sorry. The colors match on both harnesses with the orange jacket. I spoke with three more people at Mercury. Last guy told me there was a mid year change in 2005. He told me I would need harness 859244A2. I will advise once I receive it.

Two money saving hints
If you only have one engine and a gauge , you can delete the junction box and use 84-892452T01 gender bender to connect the data cable to the gauge harness.
If you don't need all of the fuel, oil, paddle functions you can use the pins from a delphi connector like this http://www.ebay.ca/itm/5-Set-Car-Bo...712956?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item337389583c and the weather cap to install individual wires ie, pink fuel gauge only as I did

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

That would have worked perfectly for me. I have twin 225's with twin SC1000 tachs running straight to the engines with the resistor cables at both ends. All I really want from the fuel side is flow. I want a gauge because I already had an old analog and wanted to match the new tachs. I dont need the consumption or range. I did not go the route of the junction box because I wanted to keep it more simple.
I think this harness will work but I caould have saved some aggravation and money with your suggestion. Hopefully this will help someone else down the same road. Thanks!

Here is a pic of my console so far. I have two more gauges for each motor to go. I am installing volts for one and am undecided with the other but I am leaning towards water pressure.

Re: error dts SMARTCRAFT system

So I received the harness (#859244A2). It hooked right up. The odd thing is, the cable is 6ft long. I guess it has other applications where the length is needed. I could cut 4ft from it to make it tidier but don't want to splice as stated before and have problems down the road. The harness had two connections, an eight pin, a four pin, and three wires. Now I have to wire the fuel sender and hopefully that will do it.

Figure I would post pics and maybe help someone down the road.

Pic 1 The top is from the motor the bottom is from the harness.
Pic 2 Three loose wires that were color matched.
Pic 3 8 Pin connector, left from motor, right from harness.
Pic 4 Left from Fuel, Paddle Wheel, Oil level Harness. Right from harness #859244A2.
I hope this helps anyone going through any of this.
Thanks Rotorfixer for starting this thread.

Re: How to install a SMARTCRAFT system

If you read the the opening thread started by Rororfixer. I think you will get a better idea of what you will need. If you want fuel range you will need a fuel, paddlewheel, oil harness. If not, it will be much easier. I think you will need a harness with a resistor on one end. The end with the resistor should hook right up to the motor and the other end to a four way junction box. Both harnesses from tach and speedo into the junction box. The end still unused should have a resistor cap on it. Hopefully Rotorfixer will chime in and correct me if I am wrong. There is a link on this thread with a breakdown of the different parts needed with part numbers. Read through the entire thread first and maybe you will have a clearer picture. This is new to me also but all the answers are either here or you can call Mercury as I had to do because my motors had a mid year change and I was sold a wrong harness. Good luck.
