How old are the mariner engines with model number model 40M6E9

EDIT : Aparently the serial number is 40M-6E9-8-004623

There is no serial number as i have got this of ebay and just checking what year the engine is

I also recently purchased a Mariner 40HP... 40M.... 6E95007536.I posted a query about the age and I was told that according to my serial # it was a 1988 year model.Yours could be 1989 or younger.....

It should be a 2 cyl. manual start, 15" shaft engine built in 1984
