I have 3.

1972 6 HP Johnson 2 stroke, in pieces for a rebuild
1986 9.9 HP Johnson 2 stroke
2007 6 HP Mercury 4 stroke (longshaft for the sailboat)

I have always been a fan of the OMC (now BRP) outboards. Unfortunatly, BRP no longer makes the smaller portable outboards (15 HP and below).

Johnnyrude's are simple to work on and parts are plenty, Merc's are unique, difficult to work on and go like stink, both are dependable motor makers.

Four here.
1973 9.6 Sea King that is on my main fishing boat.
1969 1-1/2 Johnson that we use on our canoe.
1967 9.5 Outboard Jet (that's the brand) That my son and I rebuilt. We are going to use this for a river motor on a flat jon.
1953 Johnson 2-1/2 that we use on a boat my son and I built.

I'm not really loyal to any particular brand. I like any motor that runs good and doesn't leave me stranded.

Well, I feel low rent following Skybobber!! 1954 Evinrude 15HP and it purrs like a kitten on cream. 1998 Force 90 HP, I've only had it two yrs but it's been a good one on our pontoon. Had to pull the starter, dismantle and grease the bushings. Other than that it doesn't owe me a dime.

It depends on who you're asking. iboats has two different kinds of people here.

Some (like myself) are the more antique outboard enthusiasts and some of these guys will have over 200 outboard motors in their inventory. I hope you don't think we're crazy. We just just love old outboards and love to tinker on them. Guys in this crowd, I think will offer better suggestions in making your outboard purr like a kitten and a lot of these guys are AOMCI members, so if you need anything for your classic, this is who you should contact.

The "other guys" There are a lot of guys here who would run nothing but....cough cough.....the newer equipment and don't like the oldies. They'll be considered "fanatics" if they have more than 3 outboards in their inventory. Two of which, their wives don't know about.
It's okay. We'll respect these guys, because some of them have a lot of good advice, because they're outboard mechanics too.

Myself, I prefere to hang out with the older guys, who are retired from the old OMC manufacturing plants, who have a lot of good, old school experience. This is where I learned a lot of my stuff from and they never thought I was crazy, when I had up to 40 in my inventory (when my wife did)
