I was out in the ICW last weekend with my family, and we decided to hang out on one of the local sanbars. We were there for about 5 mins. when the boat next to us (they were about 18-20 years old) turned their stereo on and very loud (which we dont mind) and put in a rap cd that was filled with profanities and very very sexually explicit lyrics. now normally we would not have said or done anything because it is their boat, but there were at least 10 very young childeren nearby. this seem to be more and more common, is this common in other areas or am i the only one lucky enough to find them? I understand we are all out there to have fun, but cant we also be courteous of others as well, not everyone is going to like the same kind of music that you do. Sorry just had to vent.

Re: Loud Stereo with Profanities

I am in north central Illinois and have the same problem here. Also have it at the cabin in Wisconsin. Have also seen it in Iowa at a lake over there.

So I would conclude that this is a wide spread issue.

I too have young children. I do not in the least think it appropriate. We have stoped using our favorite place on the sand bar...you know, the one that has a large shallow area with lots of sand for the kids...ur, ah, I mean the young kids.

The 20 something group has taken over. I guess we all have grown tired of triing to get through to someone that is from the "entitlement generation".
Most of us with children now use the far end and have made it nice.

Now the "others" have tried to move in. Not gonna happen this time!

The disrespect is amazing. I have a rather nice stereo in my boat, but would never think to impose on others what I anted to hear. I am not there to listen to music anyway. I use it out on the water realxing or on a cruise.
So, I understand completely how you feel. Maybe it is time to get everyone together and law down some basic guidlines:rolleyes:.
Or, We all amp up our stereos and start playing some Johnny Cash and Patsy Kline right next to them.

Didn't mean to ramble this long, but it burns my #**.

That would have been reason alone to call the LEO's. Public profanity is illegal. When I was that age, I would have never ever played my Gene Tracy Truckstop tapes for everyone to hear :D

I was a DJ in a club years ago. I played the Rodeo song by Showdown. Even though it was in a private business open to the public, I had to pay a $150 fine. Apparently a few people in the establishment didn't like it too well.

I just got over a situation of a fellow dockster playing his stereo way too loud. Finally after my wife and I complained, others followed. If the guy gets one more complaint about his loud music, he is out of the marina.

You know, loud, obnoxious music makes me hungry. Very hungry. It also makes me want to barbecue ... with some friends .... say a dozen or so others who don't like loud, obnoxious music.

It also makes me want to move the barbecues just upwind of the loud, obnoxious music. For some reason, I don't know why, I just get hungry for stuff that smokes alot - barbecued chicken with gobs of sauce, ribs, really greasy hamburgers, steaks with lots of fat around the edges. Its really a sight to see, I tell you! Imagine that ... a dozen good sized grills just pumping out all sorts of smoke, with grease in the air! Don't you just love the sight of stained gel-coat and upholstery in the late morning/early afternoon??????

;););)
