We don't use pressure treated in our rebuilds specially on tin boats. Exterior grade ply is the commonly used ply or - if it can be afforded - marine grade ply. Pictures will help you get the best and most informed responses from members. Good luck

If it needs decking you can assume its going to need a transom, as well. I am sure you could do it, is it the safe or long lasting way to do it absolutely not.

Ohh then again you may not be able to do it either because boats tend to rot from the inside out meaning that more than likely you will screw that sopping wet pressure treated plywood right into sopping wet, and rotten stringers. Please don't do this and operate the boat within 500 miles of my family.

Pics help us to help you. Bayliners of this vintage are Notorious for having major issues with rotting stringers and transoms. It's NEVER a good idea to overlay a wet and rotting deck with fresh plywood. It's perfectly fine to use treated plywood in a fiberglass boat but, it must be DRY. Typically when it comes from the supplier it is not and can take several weeks in your garage with fans on it and leaning against the wall to provide proper circulation in order for it to dry out. It can also cause problems with adhesion with the Glass and resin, so most don't use it. Regular Ext. Grade plywood will work just as well and when properly encapsulated in resin and glass and then maintained properly, will last for Decades. I'd recommend that you do a thorough inspection of what Lies below the deck and the transom as well.

Transom is what the outdrive (part the propeller is on) is hanging on. Basically the rear end of the boat. You don't need Marine Plywood. Ext. Grade Plywood will be good enuf. The Aruaco brand is a good choice. Get it @ Lowe's or Home Depot.

I think when the good folks here see the words redneck and Bayliner in the same sentence, it suggest's that you just want to do a quick, cheap fix. And boats and cheap fix are at opposites of the boating world. Spend a few hours reading here in the restoration section to see what you are in for, then put your detailed pictures up here. You will get really great advise to fix your boat the way it should be done, lots of lives depend on what you decide to do. Anything can be fixed, so don't worry, you are in the right spot. Knowledge is power!!

its soft in the center of the boat in the storage area the wood was removed by previous owner in that one area from bow to stern i dont think it was that bad to begin with (my uncle is the one that did it and sometimes he just dose it to see if he can.Now i got it might be why) now it is though how would i go a bought checking the stringers out to see if there intact or not do you just look and see if there is rot or is the best practice to just replace? Will post good pics this weekend cant get to the boat till then.and as far as cheap i know boat and cheap dont work B.O.A.T. bust out another thousand so true

You'll need to remove part of the deck and then use a drill to drill into the stringers and inspect the drill shavings. Dark and wet...Replace em! Light and Dry...Good to go!!

The only real way to know what you have going on below deck is to remove the decking, and since your boat is 25 yrs. old it's about due if you have soft decking.

You can learn everything you need to know by reading the different restos in this forum.

It's not that hard if you like to DIY, we have teenagers and women restoring fiberglass boats here. This is Ms. Friderdays second boat she is restoring:

... and if a wimmins can do it, I'm sure a man can do it!
