How do ya hone a ported cylinder?

A friend of mine is trying to hone out a jug on his three wheeler (old two stroke) and the hone keeps getting stuck in the ports. Is there a special hone made for ported cylinders or is he doing something wrong?

For both steel and plated cylinders, an aluminum oxide 240 grit "Ball Hone" is your best choice.

a ball hone or a longer blade ed hone that will "bridge the port. The later is what I use for my motorcycles.

Also the local shop can do it for you. mine charges twenty bucks for just a hone job.

We would use a keyway hone which has much wider stones and guides

I'd go "longer blade", if you can. You get cyilinder comformity, that way. On a two sroke-air cooled-cylinder, it's pretty loose. Loose, for a reason.

Otherwise, the "ball hone" is the way to go, as described.

Never knew there was such a thing. I doubt I'll ever have to use either type but never say never. Learn something new every day. Cool.
