90' Mercrusier 305, 5.0LX 2BBL carb. back from rebuilding but flooding. It has only one jet screw and a linkage adjustment. New to boating can someone tell me how to adjust?

The adjustment screw is just the idle mixture.

It is very possible the needle and seat are sticking open or the float was not adjusted correctly
I would send it back to who did the rebuild.

Re: How do I?

Are you sure the carb is flooding from a carb problem or a fuel pump problem. Check the clear hose going from the fuel pumpt to the carb for gas, if it has gas in it, the fuel pump is bad.
If the hose is dry, you could have a choke that is too tight which would make it flood out.
Or the needle and seat could be sticking open, or it may be way out of adjustment with the idle mixture screw.

Could you explain why you think it's flooding, and when?

Re: How do I?

Installed carb. fastened elect choke open because the wire did not fit with new choke plate. Turned engine over several times and it fired but would not staart. Went to the engine compartment and looked down into the carb and it was half full of fuel. Saw fuel leaking from where the linkage goes into carb. and leaked around base. How tight can I tighten bolts without breaking the base of the carb.?
Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: How do I?

Are you using the throttle lever at all when starting? Could you explain your cold start procedures? Starting a carbed engine is not like starting your efi car or truck.

Did you put a new gasket on the base of the carb, and make sure the old gasket was completely off and the manifold clean?

Since it has fired and you see a lot of gas, I would bet it's flooded. Open the trottle lever to wide open and try to start. Just be ready to pull it back when it starts. You don't want it running 10 K rpm.

Does that mean that you pump the throttle with it in gear, then put it in neutral and crank the engine? If so, it will never go that way.
Your throttle control has a throttle only control. It's either a button you push while moving the throttle lever from neutral to forward, or you pull the lever out. hard to say. Can you post a picture of your throttle and shift control?
