I am converting a 2003 Bayliner Capri 192 with an aluminum pod. The cost of a rebuild ( 135hp 3.0 liter 4cyl Mercruiser) complete with a new fresh water cooling system plus installation was becoming a money pit ha ha. Now I am getting a pod fabricated and installed. I am looking for ideas and suggestions as how to rate the size of hp to the size of my boat. I found a calculation online .. length of boat in feet x width in feet x 2 minus 90 (19 x 7 x 2 - 90) gave me a suggested hp of 176 hp. I do not have a need for speed...just to get to the fishing spots. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcomed.

They did put 4.3L in them. The 3.0l was base model. 180hp would be about right. You could do with 150

Remember, the calculation is HP ratings of the transom for outboards.

I/O can be a million HP in a 2' long boat.
