how do i know if alpha gen 2 ?

i have a 1997 baja islander with 5.7 mercruiser alpha how do i tell if it is a gen 2 or not ?

If it is after 92' and it's a alpha it's a gen II.

Actually you missed a year. First year of the Gen II's was 1991.

I know some guys had a 91' boat but a alpha 1 gen 1 out drive. Sometimes it's a year behind.

Look at the side of the lower unit where it mounts to the upper,just above theh cavitation plate.
1 nut on each side = GenI,Alpha,.Series 1
2 nuts and bolts on each side= Gen II
