Let me understand this...you let the cat suffer for a few days?!? Sounds cruel. I'd have fessed up and had it euthanized right away.

Cruelty to animals???? I was more concerned about cruelty to bigdee, I was just a young buck when this happened and the doghouse would have been too much!!! In all honesty I regret this but lets not get too serious about it

No question, we all certainly have things in our past we regret.

Re: How do I get rid of a neighbor's cat?

I have cats and I love cats. I have taken injured strays to the SPCA. I have found a home for a stray that some jack__s shot with a BB gun. I'm not a fan of any of the cruel "look how manly I am" solutions that have been presented in this thread.

That being said, there is no such thing as an "outdoor cat". The same rules should apply to cats as do for dogs. This cat has irresponsible owners and I'd be calling animal control every time it was on my property. People with "outdoor cats" are just feeding strays in my opinion.

Re: How do I get rid of a neighbor's cat?

Thanks for the sensible answer, I love animals but cats are not among those I love, probably because of various experiences I've had with them when I was young and beyond. I would not intentionally hurt the cat. I anticipated the thread would have some of that type of reply in it, but have gotten some good suggestions too. I'll see how today & tomorrow go then it's off to the neighbors for a talk if no luck. Then go from there.

I would think talking to the neighbors would be the first step. It is unacceptable for anyone's animals to be on your property.

Don't get me started on all the dog owners who walk their dogs with no leash in my neighborhood and think it's just fine for them to run all over yards and "introduce" themselves to me or my 3 year old. I have no problem with dogs, it's "dog people" I can't stand.

Let me clairify my respose, I would take to the local HS if the owner retrieved then would take it to one far way. If no colar their policy is to euthinize the feral cat.

My wife has already had a conversation with them in which the subject came up and they are aware the cat is always over here. Since this is a pretty delicate situation, I want to try accomplishing it myself first. The cat has made itself more "at home" since they talked. As good as the neighbors have been to us over the years, I will not tolerate being pestered constantly on my own property.

:D:D It does do one thing that I like, it hunts mice. But where was it when dead mice trapped in my son's car cost $175?!?!?

(Son was in Germany for 4 months and I was babysitting his car, driving it every week or two. Made the mistake of parking it too close to the woods and a mouse got in the heater box, had a family, and they all died and stunk to high heaven. Had to have my garage remove & de-stink it. Note Job Name and Description):D

Pretty sure cats are to big to fit in a heater box.

Side note neighbours chocolate lab keeps coming over to play with our dog, 1 year old and lonely for attention, my thought O-well at least its keeping my dog happy.

great answer, rbh! unfortunately for the puddy tat, when we're annoyed we are failing to appreciate anything.
This puddy wants to be his friend. Who knows why, but sometimes cats do love us as much as dogs do.
Trying to get rid of them is something an animal doesn't understand. They can't comprehend it; they think they need to try harder to show their loyalty. They are just doing what comes naturally to them.

They also kill moles, even though they don't eat them. So they help protect your yard as well. They eat horseflies too.

The most economical cat-preventing car cover you can buy is aluminum foil.
Another trick is to put the super sticky fly paper all around the auto on the garage floor.

Fair success with the hose today. I sprayed it twice this morning and I haven't seen it back since. I'll be watching!!

In case of return, cat tastes like chicken wrapped in a tortilla w/some salsa.

Electric leaf blowers will chase cats and dogs away. I keep one plugged in on the patio, ready for action.;)

I bet it's back tomorrow... You'll probably need to upgrade your equipment a bit, something like a fire hose :D

That or.............

Here is the kitty LakeLover was talking about. I just can't understand why he wouldn't want this lovable little creature in his lap...

Re: How do I get rid of a neighbor's cat?

My parents had thsi problem a few years ago. It was multiple neighbors and muliple cats. Their first action was to talk to the neighbors and ask that the cats be kept on their own property. the second conversation mentioned removal of the unwanted cats. Needless to say it went unheeded. After that my aprents went to the SPCA to get a couple of live traps (not leghold). they were rented by the SPCA to citizens that had unwanted animals. After a couple of the nieghbors had to retrieve their beloved pets from the SPCA the problem started to resolve itself. Here in Canada the SPCA charges the owners a fee to get their pets back.
