Re: How come some people can't write?
The problem, as I see it, is not in the grammar, syntax, spelling, etc. It is in the amount of time spent thinking about what message you are trying to convey. I had a great technical writing instructor in college who emphasized the point that you should always write as if you are the audience and have no prior information regarding the subject. This is not to say the audience is clueless but to provide them with all pertinent information of which they may not already be aware.<br /><br />In other words, put yourself in the reader's shoes and ask "Do I know what this means without having to ask for an explanation?" Correct spelling and all of that is great and can say a lot about the writer when it really counts but doesn't mean a hill of beans for informal discussion. That is, of course, unless you go by a moniker like mine. <br /><br />Just to make my point clear, read my signature statement.
