how can I get parts without knowing what year my engine is?

I've been unable to find anyone who can tell me what year my merc is! anyone in here know how or who can tell me? It is a mid 70's I believe. it is a 1500, 150 h.p. serial number 3913808

According to the chart at this link:<br /> http://www.pfs-ware.com/kwast/merc_serial_number_reference_gui.htm <br />that is a 1974 150 Merc (150 hp). Never heard of a Merc 1500 though. Close enough for biscuits?
