Hooking up a portable tank

Going to decarb. Picking up a portable tank for the job. My plan is to disconneect the fuel line at the primer bulb and attach the portable tank there. My question is do I need to do anything special to disable the oil injection? I know I have to use premix in the portable tank, but do I need to do anything special to disable the oil injection system in the boat or will it be OK if the gas line is just disconnected? I don't want to make a mess... :D

Thanks!!!

Why do you "have to" use premix?

I read that somewhere. Will the oil injection still work even if pulling gas from a portable tank? I'm an outboard noob obviously.... :)

The oil injection will work fine, Steve. Put straight gas, plus decarb goop, in the portable. Only exception would be one of the old mix-it-at-the-tank systems, which you obviously don't have.

Good luck. :)

Re: Hooking up a portable tank

Thanks JB. Makes my life easier. :)

I'm having a very bad time finding SeaFoam. I tried R&S Strauss, Pep boys, West Marine, and Walmart and a local OMC marina. Only Pep Boys had heard of it and they stopped carrying it some time ago. The OMC guy recommended the OMC engine tuner that you attach directly to an access port on the engine. Probably going to try that for now. Anywhere else I can try??? Or anything else I can use in it's place that will be as effective in a gas mix?

There is nothing sacred about Seafoam, Steve.

The products marketed by Bombardier (OMC) and Brunswick (Merc) work just as well when you follow the directions.

I couldn't find the Seafoam here in Massachusetts last year either. And I tried NAPA, they had Seafoam products but not the decarb stuff. OMC Engine Tuner worked just fine. Good Luck!
