Honda BF25 remote to tiller conversion

Picked up a 2001 honda 25 hp short shaft electric start remote control style motor. I want to make it a tiller. Honda sells a conversion kit with handle and bracket and wiring with key switch for close to 400.00. Problem is it says it's for 2004 and newer but I don't see why it won't work on a 2001. Anyone have any experience with this? Part number for kit is 06533-ZW2-F08ZA

I have converted frommanual to remote steering so may help if you are still trying? Honda changes a lot with models and mine is an older BF25.
