Homophobia

I was watching a show on HBO the other night and a test was conducted where an elastic type metering device was attached to men's "winkies" and then the men were shown gay movies. Seems the men that were homophobic got aroused by the movies. Interesting to say the least. ;)

LOL, I couldn't sleep so I clicked on the TV and that is what I saw. It was pretty late and I was wondering myself who watches this stuff.

If it was done in a nursing home, those old men will get arroused over anything.

When I hear something on this subject, I hear a slamming noise coming from my backside. The rear entrance is closed for business and the front side acts like it is in an ice cold swimming pool. RUN AND HIDE FELLA's!

Re: Homophobia

How did they determine they were "homophobic" before the rubberised winkies?
How did they get a "homophobe" to do that to his winkies in the first place?

And isn't that a word Rush Limbaugh came-up with?
Did they test Rush?
Did he pass?
Is this show going to "air" again?
So many questions....Common, OMC, don't leave me in the dark. :D
Ohwait -- you did say it was HBO. Never mind.

I saw the same thing. Looked like propoganda. But hey, it works for an agenda. Scant on methodology long on political point of view.

Re: Homophobia

Hey, Come on people, I clicked on the "santa is a women thread" and it made me think of that show. I was half asleep and remember, I smoked pot before so my brain is fried and I can't remember things. There was also some other weird stuff on that show besides the Homophobic stuff. I don't even subscribe to HBO so maybe aliens sent this broadcast to my TV set. Now I'm really confused!

Re: Homophobia

I don't know about you guys, but I've always hated the term "homophobic". Phobia implies fear, and I don't think that people who dislike homosexuals are afraid of them. I think they detest them. I'm certainly not afraid of gay people, I think that their lifestyle is disgusting, but I'm not afraid of them.
(and no, I'm not a gay basher.)

Re: Homophobia

"Homophobic" is often used to describe those who hate homosexuals, but it doesn't mean fear of homosexuals; it's the fear of being (or becoming) homosexual. So maybe the term "homophobic" is sometimes applied incorrectly. One things for sure, no homophobe is ever going to admit to that fear.

The reaction measured and reported in the documentary is (or could be) a perfectly normal involuntary response. Did they draw any conclusions from their results?

Yeah, I coined the word "Homodisgustus". You're right, I am not afraid of homosexuals or their lifestyle, I believe for some it is absolutely not a choice. However, it is hard for most people to contemplate the whole homosexual thing without thinking at some time of the obvious result privately. That is what is disgusting to many heteros IMHO.

I am afraid of only one thing. The requirement that we consider all behavior whether instinctive or genetic or because I feel like it, as equal or normal. As far as individuals, I am far more afraid of (or condemn) true homophobes, those that would physically hurt someone . . .

Re: Homophobia

Would you describe your behavior in the bedroom as a "lifestyle"? That is ludricrous.

Same gender couples' "lifestyles" vary as much as do mixed gender couples'. The sainted J. Edgar Hoover lived with another man for most of his adult life.

Abhorrence of the bedroom behavior of same gender couples is abhorrence of some stereotypical "lifestyle" that does not exist. You want your bedroom behavior to be private. Why not allow the same to others?

I see no reason to "hate" homo- and bisexual people, or to persecute them and deny them equal rights, as guaranteed by our Constitution.

Sexual predators of any sex, pursuing victims of any sex and age, are criminals of the most abhorrent sort, but they are a small minority of the population and they are not any more likely to be homosexual than heterosexual.

You know, half of all gay men are born that way. The other half are sucked into it.

I only included that word as a reference to previous posts . . .

Are you denying that a "stereotypical" lifestyle as a hetero, monogamous couple is the primary modus de operandi?

Re: Homophobia

Re: Homophobia

Perhaps we have different perceptions of what is a "lifestyle".

To me, it includes everything, 24/7/365, that a life includes. Labeling that based on the small portion of a life that is spent in private intimacy seems terribly narrow thinking.

Suppose a traditional hetero couple are normally drunk or high, steal or do other illegal activities to support themselves, beat their children, if any, and in general defy all modern morals. Does what they do in bed matter?

Suppose another couple of he same gender (I could call them traditional, too. Such partnerships have existed as long as civilization has existed) are both highly educated professionals, active in community affairs, are raising several children from previous partnerships and in general are upstanding members of society. Should what they do in bed matter?

I am not directing this at you, QC. This "lifestyle" term, condemning everything about same gender partnerships, pops up regularly and regularly offends me.

One of my daughters is in a life partnership with another woman. They have been together for 25 years. Both are professionals and well respected in their community of conservative rural Texans. What they may do in private moments is none of my business and none of anyone elses. I don't know and I don't want to know.

I just get tired of the gay bashing and I take it personally.

Re: Homophobia

There is indeed a "lifestyle" component of homosexuality. I have associated with gay people and I know this to be true. Like it or not.
