Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

NYMINUTE, If you have a courtesy dock or another driver you should not tie up at the ramps. The first trailer at the ramps has the right of way.

The best rules were in print a long time before boat ramps.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Butch

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

Earlier this season I was prepping to launch and next (the only one in sight) for the ramp. A guy pulls in in starts down the ramp then asks if I was going to launch.

I said yes, I was but seeing as you are on the ramp go ahead. So he does. Launches the shiney 20 something foot new Sea Ray I/O, jumps in, fires it up and takes off yelling that he will be back in a few minutes.

After waiting about 15 - 20 minutes for this SOB to walk back from where ever he docked and move his rig off the ramp, I decide to back in next to him. There is enough room and I'm half way down the ramp when he comes running up all upset afraid that I'll hit is shiney new Acura suv. The guy is actually pissed at me! So I pull out and let him leave.

What an inconsiderate slob. My Dad was wondering what that guy was thinking that he would be that rude to race off leaving his rig blocking the ramp after I let him go after cutting in front of me.

It was obvious. He thought he was better than us. Just because you have money doesn't mean you have class.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

had a guy putting in an outboard when we were launching. My driver had truck pulled up and ready to back in,guy pulls into the ramp area right behind her and has the nerve to tell her she is in his way. it's a 2 lane ramp. he finally gets on his side, sis backs us in. We are now unloaded and waiting for sis to return from parking truck, guy FINALLY gets backed in. now don't ask me why I still help but... he fires up his outbaord, puts it in reverse, engine tilts.
Pulls it into neutral, scratches his head, reverse, engine tilts, I walk over and tell him he has to lock it down.. he says "huh?".. I climb in and do it for him.
Later...same guy cuts in front of me to the dock to load up...so much for manners

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

The problem with all these jet fleas are.
1. they are cheaper than boats so everyone has one
2.they think they are cars and act just as rude.
I have a 24 foot sunrunner with a bow pulpit and was
in a dock that was a little to short but was ok as long as we were holding it off but some stupid people on jet fleas in a no wake zone doing stupid
trick about 40 ft behind us made my boat smack the wall and cracked the pulpit,so I got out my old cell
phone and called the rangers and reported what happened and the rangers talked to other people who witnessed it and got hull id's and went out on the water and got the fleas and brought them back to the docks and wrote it up as a accident and the fleas's insurance had to fix my boat.

what happened to common sense and respect for other peoples rights??
And No Wake they should define that on the signs and bouy's so the idiots know what it means.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

I am new at boating having launched the boat only three times, the ramps were deserted so I had a chance to experiment some with my launching method. I pretty much have it down now and can launch pretty quick. But as far as the idiots that are holding things up and generally acting like morons at the ramp, why would you expect anything else? Look at the way people drive their cars on the road, or how they act in a movie theatre. Face it the world is full of as#$%@@'s and socially upacceptable rejects that the liberal establishment has created in order to boost it's voter base.

Oh, it's not just liberals out there holding up the ramp, Sid. Ramp hogs come from all political beliefs.

I've seen Kerry stickers and Bush stickers on ramp hogs. Politics has nothing to do with common sense or politeness.

Our societal teaching of self importnace has done nothing to add to societies manners. It has actually created generations of monsters.

Expect more and worse.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

I'm pretty sure that the old geezer idiots who cut me off at the ramp last summer and then spent over twenty minutes trying to get an 18' glass boat on the trailer (with two guys!) weren't "liberals", what with all those pro gun pro bush bumper stickers all over their rig. And I'm pretty sure that they didn't grow up in and learn their manners from the "liberal establishment", given their apparent age.

I finally just took the next lane when an opening appeared, and had my boat loaded in about 3 minutes and was all cinched down, plug pulled, life jackets stowed, etc and kicked back in the parking lot with a cold root beer when the Rude Ones finally pulled their boat out of the water.

Sorry conservatives, but I'm afraid that inconsiderate jackasses come in all colors and political persuasions. Yes, I think we can definitely expect more and worse !

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

We are at a ramp last week-end and were about to pull the boat out, and by the way, this is our third time ever pulling a boat out of the water. I drop my girlfriend off at the dock next to the ramp and she goes to get the truck. The ramp is wide enough to launch 2 boats but there are two boats tied to the dock waiting so if you are dropping your trailer into the water you have to use the middle of the ramp to avoid the docked boats. So I'm about 50 feet out in the boat waiting. She gets the truck, brand new Xterra 5sp (so minor adjustments are not easy, and drops it in. At the same time, some guy with a huge trailer tries to back up next to her but it was going to be tight. We had only been on the ramp for less then 30 seconds when this happened. So the idiot instantly jumps out of his car and does his best baboon/guerilla impersonation running over to to the front of my truck throwing his hands up like a idiot.
Now backing a trailer up isn't that easy and lets just say my girl gets a little "stressed" when she is doing it. It would be the wrong time to approach her in any other then a kind way.
So as I see him running over to protest, I stand up in the boat ready to scream to back her up. At that moment she jumps out of the truck and all I hear is "give me a f@%king break.......third time.....f$&k...." About that time he looks up and see what boat is coming in to the trailer. I'm a big 6'2" guy looking really pissed. He turns right around and pulls off. If he was really good he could of fit it. I was cracking up latter that she droped the f bomb in front of his two young kids, but there is no better time then the present to learn your father is an @@%hole.
It ended up being the easiest time yet, I slid the boat right up to the winch. Two turns and it was it the right spot. Jumped in the truck and we were out of the way literally in about 3-4 minutes total.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

I have never seen a rude person at the ramps on the lake close to me where I go. Even those who have trouble backing or loading are given plenty of courtesy. I have never seen anyone cutting in line, prepping on the ramp, using the courtesy dock for long stays. Last weekend I pulled in behind a nice big something. I was prepped from the campsite, so was ready to go. The guy with all the money stood up and said "go ahead buddy, I am not quite ready".
When I loaded last sunday it was the first time I have ever had trouble loading. My large mother in law wouldn't get out of the back of the boat and she kept walking from side to side to "make sure I was going straight". I was holding eveyrone up, so I pulled it on as good as I could. About 2" off of the roller on front. I pulled out to the parking lot to allow others to go before I re-floated to get a better position.
Turned out the man behind me waiting to load had more trouble than I. He had a fishing boat and 2 teenage sons. He insisted on driving it onto the trailer, but just couldn't get it done. All this time the 5 people waiting to launch were sitting back patiently waiting. No harsh looks, no words, just friendly people.
For my part, growing up on a farm, backing a boat trailer in is second nature. Naver had a problem at all. Around here a lot of the older guys put a ball hitch on the front bumper and push the boat down the ramp. Must be easier.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

Being a truck driver I get a good laugh at the ramp watching all folks attemped to back a trailer. It always seems the guy with the biggest boat and the newest truck has the most problems backing.
Usually the guy with the old tub gets it right everytime.
Just to show off I sometimes will gun mine in reverse to the ramp , throw the boat on and roll.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

I absolutely hate people that take more than 5 minutes at the ramp and do my best to get out of everyone's way when I'm launching.

Nearly two years ago, the last time I took my boat out, I only had about 3 hours to spend at the lake so I was in a hurry to get out. The ramp I was at could only launch 1 boat at a time. A couple of STUPID old men showed up with their old Mercury inline 6, and I overheard them say something about trying to start it right now for the first time in TWO YEARS.

As you may know, the inlines are very hard to start cold, and of course theirs wouldn't start. How stupid do you have to be to not try and start an engine in that condition at home before you leave? I waited there, clearly waiting for them to leave for a good half hour before I started honking. They finally left the dock with their kicker motor, which worked fine, and they could have used to leave the dock 20 minutes ago.

This of course leads into the reason why it's been 2 years since the last time I launched. Being so pissed off at these idiots I forgot the oil...

I don't care what kind of fight I start anymore, if anyone's in my way for more than a few minutes they'll be very clear about what I think of them.

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

You can honk all you want to, when I launch solo, it'll take me at least 5, sometimes 6 minutes to get out of your way...all the noise you want to make, it won't bother me none. But it's no use blaming me for you forgetting the oil, how stupid do you have to be to not refuel before you get to the ramp?

Re: Holding up the boat ramp!

ZmOz, don't know where you live in Oregon, but sure hope you don't use the Rogers Landing ramp in Newberg. Might have to tell you where you can stuff that horn. :D ;)

But I do agree with you that you had every right to be mad at those two. Just don't take it out on the rest of us who are trying to be courtious and are going as fast as we can. Sometimes, though, because of wind gusts or the waves from Wake boats bashing the ramp regularly that boat of mine just won't get anywhere near straight on my trailer without a fight.
