I had the same discussion at Lake Wallenpaupack on the Fourth.....The ramp line dictates the boat line. Some people have more pocket change than brain cells. I really don't give a rat's @&& if your truck and or boat are bigger or newer. Wait in line like everyone else. AND another thing.....DON'T try to save someone a parking spot......first come, first served.
I went out to the local river for a test run and we put the boat in after asking the two idoits to move their jet skis off the ramp. Got it ran great up and down a 3 mile stretch. I come back to recarpet my bunks and notice an older guy having trouble with an identical motor. I offered some advice in a nice way and suprising he took it well. I didn't think it was going to go well since I am 24 and some older guys think I don't know chit.
Well couldn't get her going, starter was out. So I attemped at first to tow his boat up the river and then throw him the ropes. Well river was high and a fast current so it wasn't going to be easy. Well I was getting close to the trailer and idiot 1 and 2 swing by to check out whats going and push me to the shore with their wakes. So I said screw this and waded the boat over and loaded it up for the guy.
I know I hate loading a dead boat and I can't imagine with his age and size that it wasn't going to happen without help. So he thanked us and we went on our way. The last time we were out I had to load a dead boat so I know how he feels.
I taught my eldest son (17) to back the boat using an empty industrial zone car park and some witches hats. He was keen to learn because he knew once he was inch perfect he would be allowed to take the boat out on his own with his friends. He can now back well using either the mirrors or by swivelling his head. After showing me his skills on the ramp he's away on his own, leaving me and the insurance company to worry a little more! If everybody used an incentive to learn to back well instead of an ego-driven attitude that shows disrespect to other ramp users we'd all be a lot better off IMHO. <br />BTW - single Jet Ski trailers are really difficult to back compared to big boat trailers simply because you can't see them easily and by the time you can see a wheel in a mirror the trailer's already halfway to being jack-knifed.
Not really but our ramp now fines and tows anyone that isn't hooked up to a trailer parked in the tow vehicle parking lanes. They even took the time to paint no parking without trailer all over the place.
