Hired a local vinyl guy. Do you guys think this is acceptable?

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Momma always said..."If it ain't in Writing...It NEVER happened!!!" His workmans Lein Rights give him the right to hold your seats until he's paid. As mentioned previously, letters to the BBB and the AG's office with copies sent to him should get his attention and cost you nothing. You can pay for the seats, and then take them to another upholsterer to have them done correctly and have them testify against him to get a settlement against him for damages to get your money back from him. But you might have problems getting your money from him in the long run.;) It's a tough situation so I'd still try negotiating with him if at all possible. What kind of boat is this?

Perhaps getting other opinions and showing him those opinions about his workmanship, is all it would take to open his eye's. He doesn't sound like the type of person that take's customer service too seriously, especially when you receive open threats (30 days or else) but it's worth a shot. Heck $1500.00 is a ton of $ and the only value I'm seeing is that the rest of us will not fall into the same mess you may have. Sorry this turned out so horrible for you so far, maybe he will step up and do the right thing if you catch him on the right day, in the right mood, and all that.

The seat is from a Formula 382 (right?) I am wondering if the F-292, F-353 and F-382 have the same rear seat ( I think they may be the same) ??? :) . . . If you look for a wrecked boat in any of those models of similar vintage (Fastech series) , you may be able to get another seat.

Of course you can always keep an eye out on CL and other sources to see if/when he tries to sell it.

I posted the pics of your seat on an Upholstery Forum that I'm a member of. They are all Seasoned "PROS" that have posted their work and you can SEE that they know what they're doing. Their responses are exactly what I expected. You might want to send a copy of this to the guy that did your seat and tell him you'll be filing a claim in small claims court against him if he doesn't allow you to pick up your seat. Tell him he can remove the covers and keep his vinyl. All you want is your seat so you can have someone else do the work. http://www.upholster.com/upholstery-forum/index.php?topic=13124.0

Way to go WOOD! That about says it all. Ryan you got a good man on your side. Sounds like you'l still have to hump this humper though to get your seat back. Best of luck, Right is on you side.

Wood. That's great. Some good technical opinions there from people that actually know that business. Thanks for doing that!. Instead of chase this guy down using small claims I've just moved onto finding another solution. He can keep the seat and trip over it in his shop for the next year.

Ryan has posted an update on the OSO/Formula forum . . . Not sure he will get around to updating all of the other forums/sites that he posted regarding the vinyl work. . . . .

Anyway, a somewhat happy ending . . . Formula is making him a new seat. So, the local vinyl guy will be stuck with a seat.

Bonus points for Formula. Global bad press for the bad vinyl guy. Win-win for Ryan. We love happy endings.
