I was pretty happy Ga it fits in there snug enough to be turned permenant, the best part was I got it right on the first try, of course that was the easy piece.

The next ones pretty easy too:D I have yet to take one of these apart where all the rivets in the stringers are not either missing or loose.

You got that right the next one is pretty easy to. I still haven't found any good tricks for cutting the curves straight and consistently.

Hey Sig, somewhere in one of these threads I did a little write up on the method I use, but I can't find it. quick description, measure the widest the deck needs to be at the rear edge of the sheet plus 1/2", divide it in half, from one side of your sheet of ply draw a square center line across the 4' sheet using this measurement, also mark the overall measurement that includes the extra 1/2". Depending on how tight the curve is dictates how many marks you need for the next step, the tighter the curve (SS bow deck more reference ) or (first curved floor deck, less reference) For the bow deck I measure every 4" the width of the hull, start at the console fronts and put a tick mark on both sides of the hull every 4" to the bow. You want to measure the top of your ply cuz it is the widest, the easiest way to allow for this is to take a narrow strip of the ply and lay it on the angle the bow deck sits on and mark the top of it at the 4"marks. Now measure all distances across the hull mark them on a pad, then divide them in half and transfer them to the center line and edges of your new sheet. Once you have done that join the dots, I have a piece of 2"wide X 3/16 X 5' long aluminum I use to do this, place a small block of wood next to the first measurement on the ply and clamp it, then clamp the straight edge to the block, this allows you to use one hand to get the straight edge to follow your marks and the other to mark the curve. For the floor , I lay a piece of 1/2 inch ply on the stringers and measure across the top of it to get the right measurement. Set your jig saw at 45 degrees and cut just on the outside of your lines. For final fitting I use and angle grinder with a 36grit flap wheel or sanding disk and my belt sander.
Hope that makes sense Sig.

Re: Here we go with the 16ss

K guys quick update.

The new deck is fully cut.

The old transom is pulled it got really frustrating.

The bow cap is pulled.

Anyways here we go.

Everyone of the bolts was so corroded they wouldn't budge. The ones that weren't that badly were bent on the ends so badly they wouldn't come loose they all had to be cut with the grinder.

This was the really frustrating part I tried to loosen all of the bolts by holding them with vice grips, and I seriously mangled the paint.

Oh well I painted it once it will lay just as smooth the third time.

It was definetly the original three piece Starcraft transom, which really makes me wonder why those bolts were bent so badly.

Bummer about the paint, but that's a fairly quick & easy fix. Strange about the bent bolts, maybe they were pulled & reinstalled w/ the original transom?

I had some bent bolts through my transom too. I blame holes that are not drilled at right angles and when the bolts are tightened, the shaft bends until the nut/head is parallel with the transom. That's what it seemed to me when I pulled them out.

Thats what I thought JB was really really weird and they weren't all twisted in one direction they were all twisted in different directions.

This ^^^ is even more likely if the aluminum transom was drilled separately from the wood transom, and in a factory setting, I bet they were drilled independently.

And depending on how cockeyed the bolt went in, it bent accordingly.

And the ones bent on the inside are a bear to get through the wood. The bent headed one aren't too bad.

They all became pretty easy since time is of the essence I loosened the nuts as much as possible tapped them out with a hammer and cut the heads of with a grinder.

I also cut this.
The Sig household has been battling a stomach virus so things have been slow.
I started prepping the top side for paint as well hopefully this time next week floor and transom will be sparred and installed.

Thanks JB,

I rough cut it yesterday, let the two pieces laminate together overnight and finished the cut today.
