help!

[Renken Rider]

I just bought a 1983 Renken boat with a 2.5 OMC 4 cycl. The boat started instantly everytime in the yard on the muffs. The first time in the water it lasted about 10 minutes! Started over heating so i shut her down and got a tow to the landing. I then took the boat to local mechanic and he replace the water pump. He called said the boat was ready so i picked it up took it to the landing and all i got was a click! Called the mechanic he says it was weak battery well it ended up being a bad starter. Well now she will not start. She is turning over but not starting. I tried chocking it which was not needed in the past and seemed to want to start but still nothing. Please if anyone can offer any help it would be greatly appricated.

Howdy, if it was running ok before it got hot, and it didn't get "that" hot, then my guess is some wiring somewhere got bumped during repairs and is probably corroded, could use cleaned, gotta get the shop book for your setup, wish ya luck, Mark

narrowed it down to coil, fixed that, but no spark coming from the coil on positive side. Negative wire goes to points, and it pulses and sparks white, but no power from the terminal + to the top of the distributor cap. No start. also got new plugs maybe a ground issue or condensor I don't know

Spark doesn't come from the + terminal or the - terminal of the coil. It comes from the coil tower. Pull the coil wire out of the center of the distributor cap, hold it close (3/8-1/2") to a clean spot on the block and crank the engine. Do you have spark then??????
