Having 6 batteries in the boat would help, however more information from you would help us help you. If you do not respond to our questions nobody can begin to help you.

Aggie..... Model 85993S is indeed a 1969 85hp Evinrude, and yes, that engine does have a charging system. If your rig has a tachometer which functions, the charging system is okay as the tachometer operates off of the charging system. Let us know what you find.
