Help with VRO rebuild kit!!!

Hey guys I need help. I ordered kit number 436095 which is pictured below.


This is the kit that I should have ordered. It includes the air pulse diaphragm.


The part number for the air pulse diaphragm is 0435921, and is pictured below:


Which I think is #5 in this diagram:


So here is a few questions. Is that purple and black diaphragm a newer replacement for the black diaphragm in the second picture?
If I am going to rebuild the VRO pump should I just order part number 043921 to complete my kit, or just install the kit that I have minus the air pulse peice? NOTE: The motor this is going on is a 95 130HP with the 4 wires.

the seal around the air pulse is one of the reasons for fuel pump failure. I would say that would be one of the most important pieces along with the piston. If your old one is in good shape you can clean it up and reuse it. the kit from maxrules includes the diaphragm. but it cost a lot more than the kit from jmsonline. you might still come out cheaper ordering how you did. I assume that the purple one is a new style, hopefully more durable.

Well thanks sparkie! I got the 1st kit local for $70 and they have the pulse diaphragm in stock for another $70. Still cheaper than maxrules with shipping (which came to $160 or so) plus I am keeping the money local. Sounds like I will pick up the diaphragm.

The fuel pump has no issues at this point in time, but is 20 years old, has been setting for 6 years unused, and has never been serviced. For me it is cheap insurance that I wont blow a fuel pump at high rpms and be stuck on the water with my family. I guess I go a bit overboard with my outboard service, but for me all it is, is cost of parts, and fun times with a cold beer while I work on them. Guess I just love working on outboards. after 20 years a rebuild is a good idea. since you cannot rebuild the oil pump side I would recommend considering plugging it and premixing your fuel. if you are going to continue to use it make sure that your warning buzzer is working properly.

Guys, (Sparkie) So I rebuilt the fuel pump, nothing to it really. But, I did notice that there is no big o-ring since this is a pre-1997 VRO pump. (At the seal around the fuel pump diaphragm.) Do you think they added that o-ring because there were issues with air leaking in through that area? Kind of weird don't you think? Cant this be retro-fitted or are the housings different?

I am pretty sure that the housings are different. you should be fine without it. Just rebuild what you have, I have done a few of them and they work fine and last a while,

Thanks, I rebuilt it and it seems to be working well. I have been having the no oil flow alarm trigger, so I may have to cap off the VRO anyways. Kind of sucks since I put $140 into this pump. Now I dont want to buy a new one because I have already sunk money into this. I guess if the fuel side works well I cant complain too much though huh?

im thinkin the KISS (keep it simple stupid)(Not referring to yoiu sutor623), may apply to these vro systems. Ive been talked into keeping my vro hooked up but now im thinking NOT. My alarm buzzer is fried/melted so that is another $100 and more reason to disconnect the vro.

I got a friend who just burnt up a 97 60 degree motor because of a faulty VRO. his block is at the machine shop now getting bored, new pistons.. can you say $$$$$. just plug off the VRO and premix. it just is not a big deal for me anyway.

Yeowch!!! Well, I am surely not going to spend $4-500 for a new pump if all I have to do is mix my fuel. Only bummer is my tank is 64 gallons, sooooo if I want to fill her up thats a lot of oil at once!!!

you got to buy the oil anyway..I use the cheapest stuff I can find, I like the pennzoil from wal mart. less than $20 a gallon. that will treat 50 gallons of fuel.. so at $3 a gallon on fuel that makes $150 fill up to $170 with oil. really not that bad. stupid PWC oil is $40 a gallon for the cheap stuff at wal mart. seadoo is doo doo. I selling all mine and going yamaha so I can burn TCW3. although I did find a mystic PWC oil for $25 a gallon at acadamy. just do not have one in savannah yet, whats the hold up preople.. build me an acadamy sporting good store in Pooler right outside of Savannah. sorry I needed a morning rant on something.. LOL

Hahahaha. Yea I run the pennzoil TC-W. I think it is good oil. Walmart had it on sale for $16.44 a gallon. I bought everything they had off the shelves, and out of the back. Cashier thought I was nuts when I left with 7 gallons of 2-stroke oil!!

yea.. bass pro has a sale some times and they have it in 4 gallon cases.. for around $15 a gallon.. peolple go out of there with buggys full
