Re: help with choke

on the side of the choke, if there is a place for a control wire then it is by you and you need a wire, if there is a small housing, that will contain a spring that would auto control it.

Re: help with choke

boats don't generally have a manual choke.
automatic chokes are either controlled electrically or by a heat stove.

it'd be nice to know what carb you have. you may be able to find out here. check out mercruiser s/m #1, then carburetors inside the book.

here's a pic of a 2gc which is quite a common carb on engines of the era.

the choke is controlled by the heat stove. the white sock looking thing is the heat riser tube that gets it's heat from the manifold, then rises via the tube to the choke coil. the heat causes the bimetal sping inside the choke to react to heat and pull the choke off as the engine warms. the engine in the pic is a '75 165hp L6. i had a '72 that was the same set up. you'll have to find out if this is what you have by looking at the book to determine the carb. you have.
all bets are off as to the carb you have as being the factory carb. anything could have taken place in the last 42 years of service. the carb in the pic is a oem carb from the era.

try signing up for photobucket for pic insertion..
