ok, i am going to try to describe this to the best of my ability. I have a 1996 175 HP Evinrude that starts on the first try and runs very well. I have a rough idle when you are in calm water which i dont understand, because when trolling you really dont notice it. That is my small issue. i will take advice on what that could be.

My bigger problem is that once up on plane, we can be going along and then all of the sudden, wam! the motor dies. Now, the only thing that i have figured out is that we are not having an electical issues because it starts right back up no problems. I have also eliminated the oil warning (which i dont even think that i have one) as well as the overheating issue, the engine runs at about 135.

i think that i am loosing prime somehow but am unsure how. I am planning on replacing the in-line fuel filter to eliminate that as a problem. Does anyone have a clue what else this could be???:confused::confused:

do you have a kill switch lanyard, check it sometimes the vibrate. if it were fuel, it would act like it is running out of gas.

One way to differentiate between ignition and fuel is to watch the tach,

if it starves for fuel the needle with fall back to zero with the engine rpm.

if its ignition the needle will collapse to zero instantly.

Ok i have figured out that it is not a electrical problem. I am sure now from reading that it is a fuel problem. I will replace the inline fuel filter but i think that it might be an anti-siphon valve. Anyone have thoughts?

Not sure...but diagnose the problem before buying any parts....it saves money that way.

If you have a small portable tank with fuel line, that'll at least tell you if the problem is under the cowl or somewhere in the lines.
