Well never owned a boat before, but i got this little boat for 300$ with trailer, motor, and well boat. I figured the area that is hurt in the front is damaged is repairable. My friend who lives a ways from me said he could do it but i wanted to get some heads up from people on what to expect.

I checked out sites like this- Rot Doctor-Wood based epoxy products to repair and resist wood rot.

would anything from them help me out and so forth..

sorry for bad pics i just have a lil camera phone.

any info would be nice.

Re: Help on how to repair this

I can't really tell what we are looking at in the damaged pic. At first, I thought the boat was metal, but the damage pics look like a different material. See if you can take a pic from a little further back or provide some additional guidance on where the damage is.

Does the motor run?

Those pics are the center bottom of your boat, right ? That is the keel, the backbone of that boat. It looks like a fair amount of damage and a lot of black wood under there. Black wood is rot.

Before you get too far, you are going to have to determine how much rot there really is here. All the rotten wood has to come out before any repairs.

Use an ice pick to probe your keel area and how far back that rot goes. let us know !

Well your Keel is definitely badly damaged. Does the inside floor of the boat have areas of soft spots or weak areas? To do this repair correctly, I would recommend gaining access to the interior of the hull and patching both the interior and the exterior. From what I can see in the not so good pics, the wood in the keel is rotted and will need to be replaced as well as new resin and glass. This repair is not that hard but access to it could be troublesome.

The boat looks like it's made from Aluminum? Hard to tell for sure.

None of the outside damage is black, it was dark colored from being wet, as you can see in the new photos its drying out and turning back light brown colored.
Felt around on the inside no soft spots.. the area i took a picture on the inside to me might be directly above where it is damaged below but im not sure, it seems that area is covered in something.

on the inside there seems to be a a piece of wood i assume helps hold up the walking boards now that is black and rotting, but i felt under neath it and it feels solid. This area isnt near the area that it is damaged on the outside its more in the middle..

the boat isnt aluminum. i believe its fiber glass

took picture of location where damage is done in the front bottom. P1010319.jpgP1010320.jpgP1010321.jpgP1010322.jpgP1010323.jpg

well i dont think its black, it looks just dark brown to me, the whole area was dark like the spot a day or so ago but it was raining alot, but now it seems to be drying and turning light brown.
the area around the damaged spot looks black but thats actually grey colored. i see this grey colored stuff all over where the paint is missing on other spots.

Re: Help on how to repair this

That Grey stuff is some kind of material that the PO has used in a Poor attempt to repair the damaged area. If you want to do a long lasting correct repair we can help you with this. You can attempt to do the same kind of "Band Aid" repair and have "So So" results. Since you have access to the inside, I'm pretty sure we can get this fixed for around $100 bucks or less and it will be almost as good as new. If you want to put forth the time, effort and dollars we'll be here to help you with the "What to do".;):D

Re: Help on how to repair this

well go ahead and tell me as much as you want on how to. Im going to print out everything you guys say and give it to my buddy who has experience with boats and i have none, with my help we can probably be a good team to get it done together. it just going to be a bit before he can come up.
He hasnt seen the damage cos well he's a old timer and doesnt have a computer or a cell phone and I live up in the northwoods and he lives 400 miles away in the city where i used to live. Im Hope'n he can get up here for the 4th weekend but it depends on his time off situation and funds. Im going down to see him next week so i can relay anything you guys got to say to help.

honestly for what i paid for everything i felt it was a good deal and i wont really care if the boat itself last forever or not i just want to get a few years good use out of it. I really dont want to put alot of money into it considering it just cost me 300 for boat, motor, trailer, fish finder. As you guys are saying like woody if i can repair it well and make a good fix i can make it last a long time and be just as good as new almost so go ahead lay on the knowledge.

Looks like the plastic is damaged showing the Wood under it, for a 300usd boat just repair the damage with
Epoxie and paint. The boat Will probably hold togather for 10 more years. There are guides on how to use on repair kit you can buy with all the equipment you need.

Any boat, regardless of original cost, or necessary repair costs, should be repaired in a safe & sound manner, IMHO.

WoodOnGlass will give you sound advice, fully considering costs & safety. This boat will one day carry people that are important to you, they deserve your best efforts.

Good luck on your project, and welcome to the iboats dry dock.
