Hello all! New to the forum and looking for some advise. I recently bought a 16 ft mod v boat and a new Mercury motor and the boat motor combo don’t seem to be performing as well as it should. I was wondering if there is anyone out there that I can PM or that can point me in the right direction?
Thank You in advance

Make model year of boat?
Photo?
weight?
Weight of all gear and people?

The motor is at 3600-3700 rpm at full throttle and runs at about 7mph. The stock prop is 8.5 pitch and I got a 7.5 pitch tried it and was getting 3800-3900 rpm not sure what the speed was as I forgot to turn on my gps. The boat of course won’t plain at that speed and I have tried playing with the tilt and nothing. I have taken the carb apart just to make sure nothing freakishly got plugged at the factory and using fresh gas. I also have adjusted to mixture screw and still doesn’t get better. I do have some ideas of what could possible be done but they would be a bit pricey and wondering if there is something else that could be done at a lower cost.

Simple answer. Your boat should be running more or less a 40HP motor. With a 9.9 you are not under powered, you are Grossly under powered.

You need about 20hp to get your boat on plane at that weight
