I was recently doing some work on my lower unit and had pulled the trim cylinders and bushings off of their shaft/pin when I saw a little spring that was inside the end of the cylinder and around the shaft/pin come flying out. Lord only knows where is went? Must this spring be replaced for the unity to work correctly? It appeared to be a ground or something? Thanks for your help! :)

Ayuh,... That's Exactly what it is,... a part of the Bonding system....

I'd go Look alittle harder,... It keeps things from Corroding off the back of your boat...

Oh,... Btw,.... Good Luck,+ Welcome Aboard,....... :)

go up to the adults only sticky at the top of the i/o forum. inside that sticky check out #9. in there, you'll find your service manual. #1 i believe for a 73. in that book it will show you a picture of where that spring came from...

I've often wondered if those springs were critical in fresh water?
