Help, Mechanic has confused me on bravo 3

My mechanic is swapping out the coupler on the back of my engine due to a failure. He just called me and said that when he was removing the outdrive it just slid off with no problem what so ever. He has informed me that the piece that locks the shift cable into the upper housing, right below the drive shaft is broken/missing and I need to replace it. I am unclear as to what I need to find. Does this make since to anyone else? Can you help me identify this piece? Thanks

Yes they do wear out/break, usually where #14 connects to #15 in that posted link
