Hey Everyone. So we wrestled with my new/used Merc 175 HP Outboard to get it on the stand I built for it but I want to lift it up with a cherry picker so I can clean up the mount, check the trim pump, etc.

Whats my best way to lift it? so I can work on it and then install on the back of the boat?

Thanks everyone

There is a threaded hole in the flywheel. You thread a lifting adapter into that hole and lift it from there. There is no other way that I know of that won't damage the engine.

Yup you need a lifting eye for it. I've lifted motors with straps and such and it is scary and you risk damaging the engine or worse injuring or killing someone. I bought mine from Bob's Machine and it was worth every penny. There are a bunch of sources for them online.
