I am having an issue replacing my kill switch on my boat. The switch is off of a OMC style switch for a 1996 evinrude 175 hp. With the new switch, it will work the normal way. Does anyone know if there is different types of switches? The one that i have on my boat (bad one) was a push-in type. the new one is pull-out style. When i hook this new switch up, it will start while the clip is off and then when you put it on, it will turn off. My thought is that since this is the pull-out type of switch it will cause it to work in the opposite of what it should. I know that a switch is a switch, and its either open or closed, what am i missing here???????????

There are two types: One is Normally Open (NO) and the other type is Normally Closed (NC). With the NO type, the two connections are not connected until the switch is activated. The NC is the opposite. There are generic kill switches with two sets of contacts; one set is the NO pair and the other set is the NC pair.

I'm guessing that there is only two connectors on th e back of the kill switch? If that is the case you will have to get the normally closed switch.

Re: HELP!!! kill switch... are there two types?

the Kill switch that i bought was a seachoice pull-out type. It has four connects on it, two are Magneto and two are Coil. The coil set does not work at all. Then magneto works, but only opposite what it should. I saw a sierra brand switch that has either the open setting or the closed setting. I am thinking that i need to get that switch, does that make sense to do?
