I guess the moral of the story is....If you can't swim to an island, walk.

Let me get this straight, You and a buddy went on a fishing trip and drank some beer. Then Instead of fishing you two decided to play in the water and he ended up pulling your shorts from the back and then you two laid on the beach????
Now I haven't seen the movie personally but your story sounds a lot like Brokeback mountain.
brokeback lake?

there was a shallow reef that connected it to the main land, good for us we were so scared of swimming back, instead we wallked across it.

So you're saying we should have been able to decipher this from the info in the OP?

In nature, there are no rewards or punishments. Only consequences.

LOL! Midnight with Capt Morgan, nightmares. Somebody is still telling stories of the two guys that swam to an island in govt wash and couldn't get back. The island was 30 feet away.

I usually take my boat if I'm going to an island. Southcogs advice about resting, Is very good and could save lives at the beach w undertows. Lots of people panic and fight the current till exhausted. I was sucked out to sea by an undertow In my teens, bodysurfing some rough surf, I swam furiously but soon realized It was useless to fight the current and let it take me. When it lossened its grip I was way too far out, but I calmly made my way back in and dragged my butt out about 1/2 mi. down the beach. Floating on your back is a great way to rest or relax while swimming IMO. Ive swam good distances in calm water this way.

The Govt Wash area is the closest part of the Lake Mead next to Las Vegas, it can get a little crazy out there. Many swimming drownings happen there. I've heard shots out there and all kinds of crazy partying going on the shores. One night I seen a flickering light that looked like fire on the water. Got my binoculars and seen two guys on 12-16 ft small boat with a barbeque grill in the middle with a pretty good fire going on. Than they started to pray really loud to their god in a eastern accent that I couldn't understand. I kept an eye on them until they finally left and wished I had a pistol on board just case they came my way. Would of take me awhile to pull both anchors up, lights and secure poles to move. And it was my favorite fishing hole and I had a few. This is the same lake I read a story on this forum of a fisherman coming upon a nude cove/beach area and was told he has to take his clothes off if he was to stay. So he did. I believe that area is also in the Govt Wash area. Some think its haunted because of the Mob used it as a dumping ground.

That was my post about the nude beach,i stripped down to my shorts, thats all,not nude. Its over by crawdad cove actually.

Heres a scary story for ya all,Once me and my friend were at goverment fishing from the shore, we were sitting on chairs with only flashlights on.It was late at night about 1:30am and we saw these strange lights moving around under the water coming toward us.aboput ten minutes went by then we jumped out of our chairs as they were right at our feet.suddenly two divers raised out of the water and i thought they were monsters of some sort lol.

Were they Airman from Nellis AFB doing some night training or mobsters going in to make sure everything is still secured?

I don't think I'd swim nude at a place called Crawdad Cove or any other creature that could latch on to dangling bits. or Leech Lake.

Boaters around here often encounter Navy SEALS and other scary sorts creeping around, even out in the middle of the bay.
