Help I can't open my mouth up date

Has anyone ever had their jaw sore and not be able to open their mouth up very much? this morning I woke up with a sore Jaw and can only open my mouth an inch wide. I have been under a LOT of stress latley and I had a reality nightmare dream about the death of my close Friend the night before last. I woke up screaming but my jaw was not sore that morning.<br />and If you could what helps. thank in advance<br />Serenity

Milk shakes. That's the only thing I know of. I had infected areas around my wisdom teeth once when I was in my early 20s. Made it really painful to open my mouth. Eating was too painful, so I just got really big milk shakes, soup and stuff. Not a fix, but at least you can get some food in ya . . . Good luck!!

Thank Qc. at work we were serving coffee cake and my coworker kept giving me samples just to watch me try and take a bite. I did have one of our moca frapiccinos.<br />serenity

Haven't had any dental work done recently, have you? Extractions specifically? I was just thinking dry socket perhaps. Other than that, I would say ibuprofen to help bring down the swelling and help with any pain. I like QC's idea too. Can't go wrong with a milkshake.

Serenity,<br />Like sangerwaker said...take some ibuprofen and if it does not get any better, go see your doctor about it. <br />At least your doctor can give you a note to stay home for a day or two. That way, you can avoid talking or opening your mouth, to get the swelling down. The more active you are, the longer the pain will be there. <br />Just my 0.02 cents.<br />Other than that, just google "sore jaw", or "lock jaw"(if that is what it is) and see what comes up. I'm sure you will get some good answers.<br />Hope ya feel better soon.<br />B.C.

No I had my wisdom teeth removed a few years ago the only thing I could think of is I had my teeth clinched while I slept. well I do get friday off for my B-day so maybe some R&R will help. It will be rany and cold so no lake tour like I was hoping for<br />Serenity

Sounds to me like stress induced TMJ (Temporal Mandible Joint) syndrome, Serenity. You have probably been grinding your teeth in your sleep and induced a temporary arthritis (inflammation)in the joint. Been there. <br /><br />See a Doc about it. It is not something to just live with in hope it will go away.

Maybe your grinding your teeth at night while sleeping. This will definately cause your jaw to become sore. My aunt had a problem grinding her teeth, resulting in a sore jaw, later led to dental problems. If it continues speak with your dentist or doctor. Stress can bring this on. Maybe listen to some mellow music at a low volume through the night. It may keep you from dreaming about stressful things. <br /><br />I feel for ya Serenity. Peace be in your heart.

Yep, that's what I say also. I had an ache I thought was an ear infection for two weeks after a good ol' root canal at the dentist. After 2 rounds of antibiotics I saw my doctor. He told me about TMJ. I rested my jaw and it went away. They do have things you can put in your mouth at night to keep you from grinding your teeth. Talk to your doctor. Stress manifest itself in different ways at different times. I have awakened with symptoms from tooth pain to leg cramps, all related to stress. You need to find an outlet, or management tool (I hate that term) to help you deal with the issues invading your sleep. Good luck to you.

at Bassin fever I don't know if you would even want her she is fifty years old Made of metal and has an old 7.5 engine on her But has a LOT of love and work added to her. My Grandpa gave her to me. It was his boat when he was in his teens. When I got her she was left in his pastor all the wood rotted holes where bolts and ribbits used to be. I got her worked two years now she floats and runs good.<br />Serenity

I got it...I liked it better when George's dad was saying it...Funny everytime I see Serenity post I say it to myself and crack up. I just had my two impacted wisdom teeth removed in December. Still sore. I dont/cant clench my teeth anymore. I hope you can get some help with that Serenity

I know the answer, a cold front must have pass through and lots of pressure lately caused you to have lock jaw. Move to an area where there is nice and stable weather with warm water (65-75*) and you should be biting again. <br />A good 'ol woopie releases tons of stress.

Thanks for the laugh fellows. I almost forgot how. that is what I think happened to me. I used to be the funny one that made others laugh and made people to feel good about themselfs. I need to go back to being there again. In due time. Well I went to the Doc today She said Stress related TMJ. So she gave me an anti inflamitory med and a muscle relaxer. and told me to wear a mouth guard. So I got A Karate mouth guard and I told my hubby I might as well wear my gloves also. He said I'm gonna wake up black and blue. My daughter told me don't forget the shin guards. so I should be better soon<br />serenity
