HELP ! boat struggles under load

I have read many of these forms, and there is some great advice out there so I will try my luck.

I have a 1990 Well Craft 195 Eclipse with a Mercuriser 260 V-8 with an alpha one drive.

All of a sudden boat started stumbling all over itself when trying to run it out. It will idle fine, rev up in neutral fine and seems to run the first few minutes fine, but then falls on it's face. You can work the throttle and every once in a while, very slim, you can get it to run its self out. It seems to run fine until you touch the throttle, or the speed of the boat changes(waves).
It will not get up on plane it is a constant back and fourth of the throttle trying to get it to run.

Heard a clicking noise, and noticed the coil was sparking itself(?) so we replaced the coil(one from autozone) the problem did not change. The sparking was fixed, but not the running of the boat.
Installed a see through in line fuel filter just before the water sep.. The fuel is clean, but the fuel filter does not fill up completely when your running the boat, it seems to only fill up maybe 1/2 way and does not change.
We unhooked the choke completely, no change at all.

Could this be a dist. cap and rotor problem? They look OK, but you never know, or should I focus on the fuel delivery system.

Any help would be appreciated. And thanks for your help.

Re: HELP ! boat struggles under load

Well I got it fixed.

I pulled the dist. cap off, and it didn't look too good, so I hit it and the rotor with some sandpaper. Installed new plugs, and only one wire had some carbon on the inside of the tip, so I just used what I had.
Did the fuel pressure test just to make sure before we went out, and it was hitting between 5-7 lbs at about 1800RPM. So we dropped it in the water.

Boat ran great. Did not have any problems with it cutting out at all.

Thanks for your reply Don.
