Afternoon gent's ...

Just popped down to the boat as wanted to remove / see what spark plugs i needed to get as due to change / service the outboard soon , but i noticed oil seapage out of where the spark plug screws in , it has 3 plugs & was only seaping out through the top one , didn't want to touch / remove incase i done any harm & thought i would ask here in the 1st instance

Motor has been running sweet with no issues , but this is causing a concern & want to get it sorted .

Any advice as to what this could be ....?

Outboard is a 1999 MARINER 75HP - 2 STROKE - 3 CYLINDER- OIL INJECTED

Thanks Darren .

Hopefully it's not serious...stripped threads.
It may be lose. (If it was installed when the engine was hot, it may not be tight enough)
Check to see if it is missing the small compression washer..some (most) require it.

Or, check to see if the threads are sloppy, a little thread sealant (not Lock-tite) will cure it.
Last, a thread repair might be needed, a thread insert.

It is not unusual to see a bit of oil, since the combustion chamber is always bathed in it.

Re: Help / advice please - oil seepage out through spark plug

Just to update , went & got myself a plug spannner this morning & popped back down the boat , on the said plug i did manage to get 1/8 - 1/4 of a turn without overtightning , the 2 other plugs have no oil leakage & i was unable to nip these up anymore so that said & what everyone has mentioned it seems that that was the problem - hopefully .

Thank you to all who posted i guess that i just panicked at first at the sight of oil running down the back of our nice shiney outboard .

Have ordered new plugs & will fit as soon as they arrive & keep the others as spare .
