I just bought a new to me old aluminum boat a Crestliner...Blackberrypicsjuly2013002.jpg and I gutted it out....oh that dreadful foam.....Blackberrypicsjuly2013008.jpg After much hair pulling, especially after reading all the foam/no foam threads on here...:D I decided to go with pour in foam again  The noodle idea got my attention too, but for a different reason. Thankfully, my floors run perpendicular to the hull, allowing a clear drainage route for water right down the centre of the hull, provided that area remained a void. I ended up cutting some pool noodles in half (these ones were hollow) and taping them to the hull with the lower end butted up against the forms I made to keep the foam from running into the clear bilge area and the upper ends sitting below where the sole of the boat will be. I then cut the foam on an angle to direct water that will be running off the sole into the voids of the noodles. This should give the water a direct clean path down to the bilge to be pumped up. I will be painting the foam as well in an effort to seal it from water intrusion. I couldn't believe how much lighter the boat was with all that water saturated foam gone, crazy stuff I also JB welded all rivets from the inside before pouring the foam just as a precaution. I will post some pics of the noodle set up in another post, but wanted to say how much I appreciate the information I have gleaned from this site.....wonderful. Only reason foam gets wet as it does is from people storing them out in the weather uncovered :blue:. I don't think you need to paint foam. take that money and buy a tarp and keep it covered or under a roof :joyous:. and welcome to iboats

^ Thanks! I am going to paint it as I have leftover latex so no $ out for that, just time. This boat will be under a roof and tarped over!

Drainage noodle pics as promised.... this shot is where the half noodles come up the hull, boatfoamdrainage003.jpg I will trim the extra length after the foam cures. Here is the other end of the noodle, in the bilge. boatfoamdrainage004.jpg I painted the foam last evening and was surprised how much the foam soaked the paint in, especially where I had trimmed it, the result of opening the "closed cells" with a saw I guess. I am happy with my decision to paint it.

Re: Hello everyone, 1st post

Didn't get much work done on the boat this weekend, lots of chores to do plus a touch of the lazy's. I cut, fitted, sanded, primed and got first coat of paint on the new forward sole. I decided to go with cedar boards for the main sole, so I picked up that material on my way home Friday.
