For the spark I’m gonna test my points and condensers with an ohmmeter and clean the points. I have the tool with the front and back arrows that allows me to set the timing with the meter as well. I think this repair will be a little time consuming but pretty easy.

The carb sucking fumes….what is cause and repair for that one? I’ve not dealt with it before. I have a whole other carb here If needed

Really?

Look, deductive reasoning. I told you it needs to be on a boat or test tank or Dyno.

Next best thing.....on a boat, hell tie it to the dock. Needs a load.

Answer is, look at your own video. Your motor is engulfed in smoke. Barrel is for starting or fresh water rinsing. Your motor could just be caked up.
Box fan, try it if you think I'm kidding.

Main thing is you'll never get that motor all figured out until it's out and about.

I really thought you were joking about the box fan. I’ve never heard of that one. This motor has been smoking a ton today especially.

I’m willing to try anything. I haven’t been able to fish in over a month now.

I’ll get motor out to the lake and try to run her. River is closest thing to me but I don’t know how I’ll get back on my trailer without an outboard

Thanks everyone for your help as always. I’m enjoying this repair. I’m learning a lot (probably lots of wrong things too). YouTube posting have been helpful too I assume

my mom has a nice 2 acre pond. I think taking my motor up there and running on that pond the perfect place to do some testing!

2 acre pond? I'd leave the pond for canoers and go find a real lake.

Preferably somewhere near the big city, let that smoke billow up into the air there keep it out of the ponds.

I load test any motor on the boat.
With the trailer backed in deep enough to provide a full submerged prop and full cooling water.

I also securely tie the transom to the trailer.
Some people never tie the transom to the trailer.

Never thought to test it on back of the boat. What a great idea!
Fresh set of points, swapped long leg and put new impeller in. Everything seems to run as it should! I’m going to try to get off early to go to the lake south of me this afternoon to run the snot out of this motor!

I got a new trailer couple weeks ago, and I got a powerdrive trolley motor installed about 3 weeks ago. My rig is basically dialed in and ready to go as soon as the trolley motor is ready to go.

finally got motor out! Ran it up and down the river cir about 90 minutes. I was getting 18-19 mph wot which I think was a little low. I’m going to mess with the tilt first and maybe try a different prop at some point. It idles so nice. I ended up getting a clog out of the fuel pump which took care of the random dying. If prime fuel pump well, it would run 20-30 seconds then die. I’d pump up do same thing again etc.
