This thread has a lot going on. Im going to recap here
1. I am still unsure why original post happened. The vibrating shift handle. I replaced the head cylinder assembly and head gasket because the spark bottom spark plug hole wouldn’t hold a spark plug. The vibrating started after.
2. Mixed gas in my barrel is my fault. After posting and seeing the reponses I realized I overfilled my new gas can. Gas has to go somewhere.
3. Woodruff key broke due to flywheel nut not being properly torqued down (I assume). New woodruff key on the way.

What have you done to the tapered piece on the flywheel that's matching the tapered piece on the crankshaft?

Did you lube it, or did you clean it, or did you lap it with some lapping compound?

I’ve done nothing to it at this point. Waiting on my woodruff keys to come in. I’ll use that lapping compound like you suggested.

Places the lapping compound and torqued the flywheel to the proper 45 lb/fr spec. She fired right up and ran well in my barrel. I moved it up higher with a board: that weird shift handle thing seems to have gone away.

Now to set the timing. She’s idling a little higher than I’d like

Here she is in a barrel today. I tried to rev up the throttle. It’s not getting very many rpm: I’m thinking motors is out of time

It will spit, sputter and randomly die in neutral even. Like runs great and intermittently runs like crap.

I’m still leaning towards intermittent spark and that’s what I would be looking for to either rule out or confirm but that’s just me.
Running in gear in a barrel will not give you any useful results as your going to get cavitation.
The carb sucking in exhaust gases doesn’t help either which is where the box fan comes in
