I have done it on multiple occasions but my buddy has actually torn his off. That is a funny story for me to hear but I think it still hurts him to tell it.

not on my Champion...but on my Jon Boat (all electric front and rear) the stringer i use in the front seat will catch the trolling motor prop and make for an intresting afternoon of cleaning half scaled fish....lol...

Nope but we left the anchor loose.

Stepfather had a 14-15 fiberglass open bow boat. Nothing special. 35 horse johnson.

The anchor had a winch in the boat that was attach to a pulley on the bow.
The ride back to the dock we kept hearing this banging sound. Kinda did the shrug thing and kept going.

Once we got to the dock we noticed the anchor was hitting the bow. Not too much damage, but enough to learn a few new phrases from him.....:D

Trolling motor left down? Check. Fish basket(s) left out? Check. Boarding ladder left out? Check. Anchor left out and broken off rope? Check. Ever learn? Doubt it. On a serious note, more than one person has drowned on the White River as a result of running with the bow anchor out. Complacency is our enemy, especially on the water.

I can truthfully say that I have never left the trolling motor down and a stringer of fish out at the same time.

I can also say that I've been lucky enough to not damage the trolling motor the numerous time that I have left ti down.

Yup done it...
My buddy has his mounted to low and why in the tar-nation he doesn't fix it is beyond me, He has a push button switch on his instead of having to turn the handle and he hits the button accidentally and breaks a sheer pin at least once a month . Yes he has a baggie of extra sheer pins and a couple of props.

Here's something better than that , has anyone stop to fish and raise the motor, and forget about it? I had a 2004 Tracker V18 w/90hp on it.I raised the motor up a little and forgot about it,I started out slow and then guned it,I mean getter done,i was out of there!Go figure the bow was amost 90% up and i lost a hole box of musky lures! about 300.00 plus lures. So make sure the trim is down, before gunning it! LOL:redface:

In for the trolling motor and fish basket! The good thing about a tiller steer OB and a transom mount trolling motor is you don't get far before you look for where the shower is coming from!

Re: Has anyone else left the Trol. mtr down?

I took off full blast with my Minkota breakaway trolling motor down. Was doing about 30 before the bow came down and the motor got into the water. Got pretty wet, and it made a lot of noise banging against the boat.

I made a tool and pressed it back together. That was 3 years ago, and it's still going fine.

Anchor multiple times. Haven't fowled the prop..........yet.:D

I once rowed a 16-foot boat all the way across a 100-acre lake...

(say it with me)

...with the anchor down.

Trolling motor(Guilty)
Worst of all it was in my uncles 30k Bumble Bee bass boat!
That he was gracious enough to let me borrow that day.
Broke the aluminum mount just where the two adjustment knobs
are on the side. Never got to borrow it again!

Anchor,
Fishing in deep water for catfish and the rope didn't
have a knot tied in it near the end, just watched helplessly
as the rope disappeared!

Stringer of crappie slappin me in the face at 40mph
before I figured it out, Doh!

Good Times, Good Times...

Re: Has anyone else left the Trol. mtr down?

I have left the troller down once, but figured it out quickly and stopped. I have left the fish basket in the water several times and it is amazing at how much drag it can cause with even a 150 hp motor :D. I once was fishing in Wisconsin at night and ran back to the dock. As my father-in-law was tying the boat to the dock, I saw something white in the water and was looking at it with a flashlight to see what it was. I followed it along the water wondering the whole way what it was, until I saw that it ran right up to the front of the boat. I had left the anchor down. We were camping there all week so I didn't tell him what an idiot I was and just waited a while until I was alone and went back and pulled the anchor up into the boat. I was just glad that it stayed out of the prop.

Re: Has anyone else left the Trol. mtr down?

My favorite lake sometimes has a wind that sometimes blows straight up near the shoreline at high velocities. So now and then a perfect cast may end up with my lure hanging in a tree leaning out over the water:) Has anyone else ever gone in to retrieve a lure in the shallows with one foot on the forward gunnel, the other operating the trolling motor, and reaching up with the rod at the same time to try and get the lure back? Twice in the last 25 or so years while performing this death defying feat I have hit a stump with the trolling motor and when the boat came to an abrupt stop I didn't and ended up standing knee deep in the water. This has only happened in late Fall after the water has cooled down I might add.

Has anyone else left the trollin' mtr down and gassed it, then kept looking up at the sky to see where all the drops of water are coming from?

No, but I have left 3 beautiful trout hanging by the stringer only to find their lips when I realized my error!
