I'm sure Australia isn't in the dark about slavery or race relations, just ask the aborigines.

I don't doubt there were racial conflicts between the early Australian settlers and the Aborigines, but their history is not like the history of slavery and minstrel shows in the US.

I beg to differ, slavery, no matter where it happens is a terrible thing, and Autralia's history with slavery is even more recent than ours.

Personally i didn't see the big deal about that skit. Its part of the fame regardless of skin color. I think if you asked any person who has made it to the top that people have mad fun of them. I think its blown out of proportion.
Just watch Saturday night live or the tabloids. If you cant laugh at your self you shouldn't be laughing at all.

The past was horrid and that,s how the world was shaped. We cant change that but we can make sure it does not happen again.

This subject has been way over thought and played out to many times.

Just my view on the subject.

I think you're missing my point entirely. I'm not trying to suggest that their past racial problems were any better or worse than ours, or that you can put any kind of calibration on how bad a certain country's slavery problems were. OF COURSE any degree of slavery is a terrible thing.

I'm saying they have a DIFFERENT history than we do-- they don't have the same minstrel show past that the US does. So I can see where performing in blackface might not carry the same stigma in Australia that it does here in the US.

I agree! It shouldn't make Americans upset, for that very reason! ;)

White, liberal guilt is a disease that is killing this country.....
That's all I'm gonna say..... ;)
