I have tried and tried to filter through all of the different opinions about which engines use the same balancer. Is there anyone who can point me towards a part number that I may be able to cross reference. I am not asking for anyone to do my work for me just praying for a softer wall to bang my head on. This old boat has served my family well 4 kids smile when it gets connected to the truck it is my first boat and for sure will not be my last, just need it to make it throught one more year.

Thanks

Ian

You can also find used ones on eBay for quite a bit cheaper... new is always best.. but if money is tight...

The GM inline 2.5L auto doesn't use a balancer? Or are you referring to just the OMC version? ( I don't know boat configurations ) but if he searches on eBay for a used balancer (or new) he can find the same balancer listed for the 2.5 liter as well

An example

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harmonic-Ba..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item564a6f0423&vxp=mtr

Interchange manual shows the following:

120 GM 153 I/L4 1983-1986 6229718 THRU 0B531853
140 GM 181 I/L4 1968-1972 2508261 THRU 3332137

I don't think we are talking about the same thing... the automotive 2.5 is listed as using the same balancer this guy needs.. regardless if the boat versions used one or not.. no matter.. he can find them listed on eBay under both

Thanks for all the help

Think I have this figured out correct me if I am wrong part GM part number 3826280 is a single grove balancer in the car world off of a 69 nova/chevyII with 6 cyl either size will work. In the marine world it the only one that will work is one off about 1978 3.0L not 2.5L

Ask me to rip apart a diesel or gas motor and put it back together no problem have lots of info. Marine stuff somebody get me my red striped cane cause I have no info.

thanks again

I do know the 1983-1986 Merc 120 does NOT use a balancer on the front.

The super-thrift 153 in the ChevyII did not use a harmonic balancer on the front of the crank.
I suppose it is possible that part number was used on some other 2.5L chevy... like the 151 or something.

Ayuh,.... In '78, there were No 3.0ls in Cars, actually, it's Never, Ever been used in a car....

I'm also doubtin' that a 6 cylinder balancer will be the exact same balance as a 4 cylinder's...

And,... Regardless what that part listin' says,... I stand by My statement,..
The 2.5l boat motor has NO balancer... just a bare Pulley...

There's only 'bout a BaZillion ole 3.0ls out there,...
Buy the RIGHT 1...
