ok, here it is. finally got to go and run the boat. ran great, but slowed down and idled down a bayou for a 1/4" of a mile, put in neutral, and it killed. started bak up and ran to the mouthto fish. when started to leave could start with acceleration, but when i go to neutral it kills and took a while to get it going again. did it again at landing.noticed a little wetness at the lower carb. gasket line area. could this be my problem?is the lower carb for slow speed and upper for high?:

"Ok here it is"

here what is?
Yr , model number, hp?

"is the lower carb for slow speed and upper for high?: "
no.

"finally got to go and run the boat"
After doing what? ;)

If this is part of an ongoing thread you ought to keep it all in the original thread so it makes sense, by itself it doesn't describe anything.
If you re-post to your original thread it will bring it back to the top of the forum.

Re: hard to start

Check the obvious things first. Is it getting fuel and air? Check the fuel filter and the intake manifold for any junk or obstructions. Check the throttle linkage to be sure it's moving properly. Check the idle screw on the carbs (if it has a carb). It might just need to be turned up a tad to keep it running in neutral. Do you have old crappy gas or is it fresh? Sometimes stale gas will make a motor act funny.

If this isn't the problem, check the compression on all cylinders. They should all be the same within 10% or so. You might have poor compression in a cylinder causing it to "sputter". Also, check the spark on all cylinders. Sometimes a weak cylinder will cause problems at a lower rpm but at a higher rpm, the engine's momentum can sort of overcome this and it will run better at WOT and stall at lower rpm's.

Re: hard to start

Sorry , lack of info, i have a 1983 115 the gas was bad changed, compression lowest is 95, then 113 and 115 on other 2. Did a decarb and improved to 97. Also cleaned carbs, inline spark tester showed very good fire. Had run for a short while 2 times before and bogged both times. So i got into it and did what i could do . Put in at the dock and held against it at 4200 after decarb. I said man i got it. Ran down the bayou for 7 miles and ran beautiful until trieing to start it after fishing for a while. And other suggestions would be very helpful and thanks again.

Re: hard to start

Needs more info.
You have a 1983 115hp
So is it new to you?
How long have you had it?
Re' compression...has it experienced an overheat, is the paint on the cyl heads blistered?

did it run good for you in the past?
Did you set the spark tester to 7/16th inch gap? ( $10 adjustable gap testers are best for this).
Did you use all new carb kits when doing the carbs? see sticky files below for directions.

Is the fuel tank clean?
Using a water seperator?
Draw some fuel to test for seperation?
Do the butterfly's close fully at idle?
Are the butterfly's 90degs level at W.O.Throttle?
What is the rpm , in gear, at idle? (750rpm is ok).
Was it link and sync'd ?
Using Champion plugs?

Re: hard to start

got the rig in jan., and never had much time to work on it. not over heating.drained the tank, but will do it again and flush this time. found some more water and trash in seperator, thinking this is my whole problem. when i cleaned and soaked the carbs they were spotless. motor idled at 8000 perfectly, got up and ran like a charm, 5400 at 42 mph. it a 17' mako. had put only 5 gal. in tank just in case the water and trash wsn't the problem but i think it is now.
