What a great day to reflect on the fact Dr. King was able to do more through peacefull means than all the "haters" of that time. With our country so divided today we sure could use another man (or several) like him today.

R.I.P. Dr. King, you are well remembered.

Re: Happy MLK Day!

I agree, it was divided, but I just didn't see the total lack of respect I do in Congress today. (I've never seen or heard a Congress man stand up and call the President a liar on national TV before.) Perhaps you are right and it happened and it wasn't so "in your face" and we didn't have the Beck's, Rush, Hannity folks ranting daily. (Just my opinion)

The amazing part for me was that Dr. King was able to rise above all that and talk of peace, acceptance, and dare I say love and people listened and followed him. Not certain that would work today, I hope i am wrong.

Actually, in the nineteenth century congressmen would ride in from the boonies for session and carve their names on the furniture, dog cuss each other, and get in fist fights on the floor. That's why they now refer to each other as "the distinguished gentleman", etc. (and I guess instead of literally punching each other in the face they figuratively stab each other in the back). I agree with you though, Bubba. We all need to treat each other better. Don't have to know where the words Love one another as I have loved you come from to agree they are words to live by.

Re: Happy MLK Day!

The only reason I'm responding to this is that it is a political post.

Bubba, If your talking about the division of this country in the sense of race I agree to some degree. I wont bother pointing the blame. Before you blame one side or the other, note that the main stream left media berates Hanity, Rush , myself as a tea party activist, conservative, etc. ,as being racists and/or domestic terrorists. We are conservatives whom normaly vote republican. And you must know the same media and left has convinced folks that they alone passed the Civil rights act of 1964. If you were to do a small bit of research, you will find that it was the republican majority that was able to push that bill thru at the dismay of many democrates.

Or,if you meant the division of this country in terms of the last election, that was a referendum of the demcrat congress and obamas policies, it has nothing to do with MLK....or the color of our president ( white and black) who is leading the socialist march.

I'm disappointed that this thread has lasted this long ....based on the site rules. Celebrate MLK...and leave your politics at the door...

I'm putting words in Bubba's mouth, but I believe he was referring to the division of this country on just about every topic. Don't have to be a tea partier, liberal, conservative, or anything else to acknowledge that said division exists. Will we work through it and come out stronger as we have in the past? Only time will tell. In any case, I don't think his intention was to start a political thread. I think his intention was to pay homage to a flawed but great individual who made epic strides in improving the lot of a downtrodden sector of our society.

Re: Happy MLK Day!

I wish that every one in school would read a couple of things every year. 1st the us constitution and the amendments. Second, the papers the for fathers wrote wrote stating there goals and dreams and what there thoughts were for this document. 3rd. The Martin Luther King I have a dream speech. I really like the tempo building and the part where he states he wants an America where all men are judged on the content of their character not the color of their skin. I know I am paraphrasing but it is available on you tube as well. I was quite surprised that it is only 15 minutes. One of the most stiring speeches I have ever heard in my 56 years of life.

It was never meant to be and I am sorry you didn't see it as I intended it. When I say our country is divided I wasn't thinking politically at all.

Your initial post was not what I based my comments on....It was your second post in response to 1fishbone where you said:

The only people you listed ranting (RUSH BecK and HANITY) are conservative...thats a deliberate snide and attempt to paint conservatives in the picture the leftist media do/RANT daily. As long as the mods here allow me I wont let you get away with it. Theres always two sides to a coin. JMHO

OK, For arguments sake let us all agree that these folks you named are ranting daily....which one said...."we need to get out there and get in their faces!"...?...or " if they bring a knife we'll bring a gun!"...?...or "The folks of ( some particular conservative region) are happy to cling to their guns and religion..and I could go on and on but I'll stay short.......
